El Presidente Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Idiot for what exactly? For releasing two similar cigars in two different markets, one at each end of the earth, without any interaction between them? What's the problem? No problem for releasing 2 similar cigars...but surely not at the same time? Both distributors would have gone to some effort to procure the release. It is a 2 year process. There has always been an element of exclusivity to a Regional Release before another market can apply to pick it up (not much mind you but enough). Whether it is the French Distributors or PCC does not matter. One of them should have been given a clean run given the size of the cigars are so similar. Just my opinion.

And IMHO (speculation) the offender has to be the french distributor; this company is autistic, they have about zero contact with the french cigar community…
Stalebread Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Does it make any difference that vendors in the Asia/Pacific region can ship orders while (as I understand it) French vendors cannot legally ship/mail tobacco products? Just a thought. .

For releasing two similar cigars in two different markets, one at each end of the earth, without any interaction between them? What's the problem? I'm assuming it's because each region assumes it will receive an exclusive, not a bi-regional addition. Maybe Canada can swing a deal with Antarctica to swing a bi-polar edition... Edit: sorry, missed the post from the Prez

Just a thought.. It is not a sales issue. Why go to the trouble of doing a QD dinner in HK/Shanghai/Bangkok/Sydney/ etal to celebrate this release when every 2nd question from your cigar guests revolves around "is it the same as the French QD release? Has anyone tried the French one? How do they compare? Why 2 releases? Did you know about the French Release?" Completely unnecessary and unfair to distributors who pay upfront for some exclusivity.

I agree with Rob, as usual. By the way, are the price points about the same as well as the marca and vitola? Packaging?
Smallclub Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 By the way, are the price points about the same as well as the marca and vitola? Packaging? Again, the vitola are not the same (see my post above).

Stalebread Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 It is not a sales issue. (snip) Completely unnecessary and unfair to distributors who pay upfront for some exclusivity. OK. Got it. It's an exclusivity issue because the two releases, while not the same, are close enough to be seen as the same. It's not like releasing, say, three Por Larranage in one year because those cigars were all very different. .
