IcedCanuck Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I have a hard time putting stock in anything the propaganda machine known as CNN says. Blow things out of proportion + outright lie + exaggeration + scare the crap out of people = RATINGS. There's probably some truth to it but I don't really believe everything that article says ... I'll take it with a grain of salt I guess.
KB24 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Might as well delete this thread now before it goes political!
Puros Y Vino Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Might as well delete this thread now before it goes political! I can kinda agree with the CNN comments, but Cuba isn't exactly nice to the majority of their population. I really hope that this BS can end peacefully.

You can also search here - "ladies in white" - and you'll find a few articles. Might as well delete this thread now before it goes political! For better or worse, Cuban politics are open for discussion.
Ginseng Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 ...Cuban politics are open for discussion. Agreed. ...the propaganda machine known as CNN... But this is neither helpful, relevant, nor informative. W
Orion21 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Don't make it political. I posted for informational purposes only. We shouldn't close our eyes just because we don't like what we are going to see. Our dollars go to support the government who treats their people this way. BUT, our dollars also go to provide healthcare and other essential services as well. It's a double edged sword. I wish the people of Cuba the best.

I really hope that this BS can end peacefully. Ditto; it's unfortunate that this sort of thing still goes on in the world today. One day Cuba will have a democratically elected government that will have to answer to the people. Until then they are pretty much free to do whatever they want. I can only hope that it ends without bloodshed and the loss of life.
tdlfoto Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Another interesting thing to google is 'CIA subversion in cuba' and things along those lines.
CUBANO Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Take from a Cuban. It's true. This is nothing new in Cuba.

mazolaman Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I agree,I hope the whole of humankind get's their freedom. I hope they get a fair days pay for a fair days work. It's just that, things like food, clothes, and electronics won't be anywhere as cheap as they are now. I'll be pleased when my democratic free life isn't subsidized by what are essentially slaves.
Colt45 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I'll be pleased when my democratic free life isn't subsidized by what are essentially slaves. But Maz, that's a personal choice we all make - we're free to purchase, or not purchase products according to our personal morality. And yes, this is an intentionally cheesy response which is not really directed at you - or anyone. The topic is simply about dissidents being "attacked" by government officials, and perhaps pro government citizens. Rob has posted similar stories, as has Jimmy, and any number of members. We're about discussing Cuban cigars, but inevitably it will sometimes involve discussions of Cuba in general. Over the years, I've had my say (no doubt out of turn) about Cuban politics / government, but I've come to the realization, that it's simply not my place. I can give my opinion if asked, but I have no say. So what's my point? I guess it's why do these things have to sometimes turn to ****? Granted, were we all sitting together having face to face discussion, these things might come up, but it's simply a news report on something that happened, and has happened in the past as well. And just to clarify, I make no attempt to dissuade anybody's thoughts or opinions - I'm just offering my own.
mazolaman Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Yep,fair enough, fair point. More cheese. My "angle" on most of these topics is that is/was often a slight right lean on discussions. Ie,if discussing the sometime inadequacies of Cuban cigars, there is a tendancy to shrug and say"well, thats communism",whether that is at fault or not. I also feel we highlight the evils done by the Cuban government(which they no doubt do)but ignore the evils our own democratic governments commit(which they no doubt do). Also,it is also to put another point of view,to demonstrate that not all cigar fans think the same way.To remind everyone on the forum that you cannot guarantee that the whole forum community instantly will agree with your point of view,as this is a world wide community, with differing views. I read MR Pig's posts and opinions, without taking offence. Stems from a Reithian desire for balance.
tdlfoto Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 but ignore the evils our own democratic governments commit(which they no doubt do). it's the implied superiority in these convenient ommissions i find most troubbling. as Martin Luther King said "the united states is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today".
KB24 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Was referring to the CNN comment and not Cuban politics
Colt45 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 More cheese. Your outlook and points are far from cheesy. On a side note, with perhaps a parallel tie in, I'm in the middle of reading Paddy Whacked by T.J. English (author of Havana Nocturne). Pretty interesting.....
