fred170 Posted July 21, 2011 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Hello fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Leaf, I have embarked on a new project. I took one of my old humidors and placed 5 cigars along with some cuban coffee grounds and placed them together in an effort to marriage the flavors. The hope is that the cigars will absorb the aromas and flavors of the coffee to give it a rich dark, extra kick of sorts, flavor profile. CohibaBehike Posted July 21, 2011 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I wouldn't necessarily do it, however, I'm a purist of everything that I do. Even when it comes down to steaks... Maybe Salt and pepper but that's it. If you're going to do it to try smoke it side by side, yes, side by side with the same cigar from the same box and smoke back and forth between this "infused" cigar and the regular cigar. Make sure to have water in between each puff, and try almonds or something else that is a palette cleanser. If I were to do it this is what I'd try, just to see. Better smoke the cigar and drink the coffee, also am not sure such an infusion will actually work, , the taste of coffee comes from so many components within the coffee bean itself that just having them sit together will probably have no affect. He puts in some of his customs in it and smokes them occasionally as a late night treat. He swears by them. I've placed 5 cigars (JL2's, Partages PC, and a Fonseca) in the humidor along with the 1 tsp of coffee in the corner. I'll let them ferment for a while and get back to you all. I figured if I infuse the CC's with a little dry coffee grain then maybe its like a left right combo. I'll give them a few weeks nd definitely will let you know the outcome. The subject wrapped to an almost airtight plastic foil and closed to a jar filled with coffee. It is said that after two weeks there was a slight aroma of coffee included with the other wonderful herbal aromas when the subject was rolled into a paper and smoked. People doctor robust booze to "fruity drinks" to temper the robust flavor of the raw beverage. The same is done with cigars. If we go back over 25 years or so, I used to take PC sized machine made cigars and put them, about 30 at a time in a pipe tobacco ceramic jar and add about a teaspoon full of blackberry brandy to a sponge inside. I was in fact a novice smoker at the time, looking for familiarity in tobacco, not yet appreciating tobacco in its own right. Why I wanted my cigars to taste like blueberry pancakes is laughable to me now but there was not likely much to appreciate in that tobacco anyway; I did not know any better. I found the mixture quite pleasing at the time but find the thought of performing such and act on a quality cigar distasteful today! Kind of like putting steak sauce on a porterhouse - nothing wrong with it if you enjoy it, but I prefer to let the meat speak for itself. But......... If I were to try it, I think I'd stick the cigars in a jar full of unground beans. Along with trying the cigars, I'd grind the beans, make coffee from them, and try that as well. It will be interesting to see if cigars do actually take up a lot of flavour from their surrounds in a short amount of time. I don't currently have any ceder inside my wine fridge apart form a tray which I keep tubed cigar in, and the smell that comes out when I open the door is lovely, no ceder notes just sweet tobacco Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
