Ghabanos Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 To be honest - I don't have much to say...classic D4 for me Construction very nice Bit of oil light veins, loved looking at it. @ cold - pure patagas for me. my comfort stick Draw is excellent opening Hint of biscuit when toasting Good spice Very smooth 1/3 Burn is ugly but starting to smooth out smooth nice amount of smoke good quality tobacco 2/3 same as first third with hints of cream here and there 3/3 partagas spice... Today this was a 90 point cigar...
ramon_cojones Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I won't touch these without 3 years on them when they start turning superb, always like to see review pics and such. Rob, what is your opinion of 2010 d4s with more aged leaf in them being rolled with non-aged leaf? Since they're not as harsh as d4s of yesteryear do they possess as much "legs" in your opinion? Of course this is with the assumption that harshness = indicator of legs. I had a friend saying he doesn't like this concept of old and new rolled into one cigar. Please take us to school Mr. Bus Driver.

CaptainQuintero Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 What's the strenght like on the D4s? More, less or the same as an 898v ? I love the flavours from the 898v but when it's finished I feel like I've gone 9 rounds with Kimbo Slice!

CaptainQuintero Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 lol I'm going to have to pick up some singles, three years of smoking CCs, mostly coronas and I'm getting put on my ass with 898vs and padron annis lol.

Strange, the burn should have been even with that much age. Usually happens when the cigar is young or storage of it has been upset with fluctuations in rh. You got a good friend (like mine). I have not had the 898 but it's supposedly the strongest stick in the partagas line-up according to Rob. Young d4s are mild and they pick up power as they age like coros. A 3 year old d4 is right at medium-full body whereas young they're about medium to a touch under. Young they're not that exciting for me, flavors are muddled and not much depth/definition. They transform into cinnamon, spice, nutty goodness that is very signature of a d4. It's the perfect power level for me.
Wil Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I've found them to be great young too, but maybe that's just me.

You got a good friend (like mine). two factors here... 1) my toasting skills suck, and with the wind it wasn't helpful either. 2) your right, I didn't have it in a proper humi. it was just a single, so I had it in a couple of zip lock with a mikeshift humidifier. I know - sacrilege....
