bstarrs Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Any fellow Ontarians have any luck finding this rum in the LCBOs? My little rum collection has examples of pretty much all the brands they carry in the St. Catharines stores but I cannot find any Zacapa. Mount *** xo, El Dorada 12, Angostura 1919, all the HCs, Appleton reserve etc. are no problem to find but need to get my hands on some of this. Anyone have any suggestions?
CDNeh Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I have not found it in the LCBO's but I did come across it out bound at Pearson Int'l airport, specifically Terminal 1 or where ever Air Canada Flys out of. Regards Stephen
Puros Y Vino Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Yeah, duty free for the most part. I always see it on my way back from Mexico. Two 1.25L bottles for $88
bstarrs Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Looks like I'm going to have to run the border at the Peace bridge duty free...

Is this a new product? Plus, I'll never pay $79.99 for a bottle. That's ridiculous.

It's everywhere down here, I buy the 23 year all the time for a great price. We could make a trade, Rum for Cigars!!!!
bigfunkyg Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Zacapa is new at the LC in MB. That price isn't bad but you can get a 1L in some duty frees for about $50.

Since Myles posted that I've been to several LC's, neither had them. I have been buying the XO for less than $50 and the 23 for a tad over $30 when I hit the states. I just can't pay $80 for a bottle of the 23. If it was the XO then I would be all over it.
bigfunkyg Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 South Fort Richmond has it in a display case by the checkout. XO is wonderful but I agree get it at duty free price when you can.
IcedCanuck Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I have not seen it in the LCBO or any SAQs on the other side of the river. I'm pretty sure you can order just about anything you want from the LCBO though. I have seen Mount *** at the LCBO but have never tried it myself.
riazp Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Is the zacapa something easy to find in the states? I'm not much of a spirits guy, but the zacapa 23 seems to be right down my alley...is this availble in liquor stores in plattsburgh?
goalie204 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 zacapa doesn't show up when i search LCBO, but we have the 23 year old here in manitoba
riazp Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Dunno about plattsburgh, but it was all over the place in Burlington. thats where I got mine a few weeks back. How much are they going for in burlington shlomo?
r3db4r0n Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Only place I've ever seen Ron Zacapa 23 is duty free at $50 a bottle, I've yet to see the XO but that stuff is amazing. It would be nice to find some Zaya in southern ontario for a change.
fokker4me Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I will gladly buy in the States and make a trade for Havana Club BP, If there are any Takers. It is pretty avail at my sources in NJ or NYC.

Zacapa has never been available at the LCBO's or SAQ's... I check their stock pretty much weekly for new rhums. The Mount *** XO is great, another one would be the El Dorado line, they are all good, especially the 12, 15 and 21 years old.

Havana Club Barrel Proof is pretty much discontinued... it has been replaced with HC Seleccion del Meastro... pretty good, have a few bottles at home.
mtaill Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If I remember correctly it was 40$. Just wait until the SAQ has a 10% sale and pick up the El Dorado 15 and see if you like that. Otherwise, come over one night for a stick and a glass or 2 The El Dorado 15 is around 55$ IIRC
CanuckSARTech Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 the HC barrel proof and the Selection de Maestro are exactly the same rum. Difference is the snazzy bottle and 30% more expensive. Thats it. Not quite. Different aging timelines, and alcohol percentages. I noted this back in February or so, after a trip to Varadero in January. I made a note of it somewhere (I'm too lazy to bother to do a search right now). But I do distinctly remember an aging timeline difference in there. And, I also remember the store staff saying that it (Selection de Maestro) was to be a different lineup offering from the Barrel Proof, not a replacement, as they were both staying. But, things do differ, I know, especially with Cuba, and depending on who you ask in that country.
