CanuckSARTech Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Hey all, I'm putting this up for all of the various Montreal-area BOTL's on FOH. I'm back up at garrison in St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, just about a 1/2 hour outside of Montreal. There's a number of other guys on my platoon that are already thinking ahead to next weekend (Friday, May 27th, and Saturday, May 28th), and thinking about doing a night or two in downtown Montreal. So, I thought about asking for help from the various BOTL's on here.... What's a good place to stay in and around the "main scene" in downtown Montreal? And I mean, good options for both quality and price combined? Anyone have any good in's or discounts/vouchers for use at some decent Montreal hotels? How about restaurants/bars? Same thing - anyone with any good in's or an inside scoop on some great spots? And last, but DEFINITELY not least, any Montreal FOH'ers willing to maybe consider a nice herf at the LCDH in Montreal, or something similar to that? I know that the LCDH Montreal is definitely on my want-to-visit list, but I leave it up to the whims of others who might be interested in it. To the best of my knowledge, this LCDH also serves alcohol, and that's a definite want of mine, but it depends on who's interested in joining. It might only be me and one other CF member who would be attending the actual cigar afternoon, so it would more be something geared towards FOH members in the area getting together for, for that anyhow. So, just let me know thoughts. Internet will be spotty for me, but I'll check this out in the evenings as I can. Thanks all. Cheers.

However I am thinking of doing the same thing at the Atlanta LCDH this weekend.....oh wait nevermind...... Hope you pull it off and have fun.
riazp Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hey there, I'm new around here but I think I can help you out a bit... Firstly, hotels, not my speciality, But, I suggest maybe you find a hotel/motel in brossard on the south shore. You'll be close to st-jean and next to the bridge to go downtown. Restaurants are easy to come by once your downtown, just walk up and down st-catherines and you'll have everything you want, italian food, pub food, I personally suggest you hit up a smoked meat joint like ruben's or dunn's. As for you cigars, the most important. The LCDH in montreal does serve alchool, and has a smokng lounge, but you have to buy a cigar from there to have access. And somehow its more expensive than the toronto LCDH. If you brought cigars with you, then there is stogies on cresent and maisoneuve, where you can bring your own cigars, and their drinks menu is extensive. For the HERF, as much as i'd like to, bad weekend, maybe friday, i'm working till midnight saturday. PM me if you want more info, i'll do my best to help you out brother.
tmac77 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 St-Jean well that brings back some memories. I went to College Millitaire Royal in St. Jean back from 1977 - 1982. I have not been back in a long time. I imagine that the recent flooding left quite a mess there. I do go to Montreal about twice a year though and I would ditto on riazp's recomendations, places to stay on the south shore are much less expensive that in downtown Montreal. I prefer Ruben's to Dunn's for the Montreal smoked meat. And there are also some great places to go for adult beverages and a nice meal on Bishop's S. of St. Catherines. The LCDH is very nice but once again a +1 on stogies.
Strada Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi Canuck, I am a concierge in Montreal so this is what I do daily To stay in Montreal, I would definately say The Square Phillips hotel. It is where I work but it is hands down the best deal you can find downtown. Another great place is ITHQ hotel, it is a hotel/school where people study the hotel business. great room at an affordable price. LCDH is a great place to have an afternoon smoke, serves alcohol and is usually pretty releax only thing is that you HAVE o purchase your cigars there and they are not cheap. Another alternative is Stogies, really not the same atmosphere, not as nice but you can bring your own sticks and when you pay 20-30$ a units it gets expensive!!! For restaurants and bars pm what you are into, ill recommend something specific instead of just shooting out names. I am down for a herf if it's during the afternoon. keep me in the loop
Puros Y Vino Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Ah Montreal....Toronto's cool cousin. Great city to party and unwind. I haven't been to their LCDH but I've gone to Stogies a few times and really enjoyed it. And of course, the smoked meat is not to be missed. Dunn's or Reubens? Can't go wrong. Though I think that Dunn's piles on enough to make your heart stop before you take your first bite.
Strada Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 And btw, the REAL montrel smoked meat is at Schwartzm hands down
riazp Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Technically the BEST smoked meat is at schwartz, hands down.

I have not been back in a long time. I imagine that the recent flooding left quite a mess there. CMR is actually still in great shape. About three weeks ago now, when all the flooding started, a bunch of us from CFLRS were tasked for a couple of days to go down on CMR on the Richelieu River, and start sandbagging, before the CF was able to get the Vandoos here. Well, this past week, I also had another tasking at CMR for a consecration-of-colours ceremony, and while the water isn't fully receded, most is back to normal at the college itself. For a good stretch there, the water was right up to an submerging the whole football fields even, right up to the sports building. There's still about 3000 homes in St. Jean that have the water level up to them right now, lots of damage and whatnot. But thankfully, the majority of CMR, including most of the historic structures, are quite fine. Just mostly landscaping issues, and some water-logging at the Commandant's house.

Strada, if you don't mind, PM me some pricing details as to what I'd be looking at for either place, roundabouts.
CanuckSARTech Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Hey guys. Sorry, but this weekend is out for me now. I've just been reassigned with my training, so I'll be tied up and unavailable for the next 4 weeks or so again. So, my weekends are out again. Maybe another time soon, I can hopefully get out and toodle around in downtown Montreal. When I'm able to, I'll let you guys know, to maybe have a little cigar gathering.
riazp Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Good luck with the training, for sure let us know, i'll always down for a smoke if i'm availeble
tmac77 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Technically the BEST smoked meat is at schwartz, hands down. I have been to Schwatz's many times also, usually to buy a few bottles of their mustard, if you don't mind the lines it is good. Best ever was Ben's now closed
