Partagas 8-9-8 vs. S Conn #1?

I have smoked 5 Parti 8-9-8s and absolutely love them. Everything I like about Partagas; I think the dalia vitola is just perfect for this profile.

However, I've never had the conn #1s and wondering, for those who have had both, is it even a fair comparison? Have we been robbed, by their discontinuation, of a rare gem, or does the 8-9-8 fulfill that bracket?

Unfortunately, the discontinuation of the Partagas SDC vitolas is a major loss with no replacement within the current HSA inventory.

I find the SDC 1 to be a richer cigar with an aromatic spice component to the flavor profile that differs from current production 898s. A bit of honey can be detected in the SDC blend.

Both are great but they are not interchangeable.

I adore the Partagas 898V. It's my favorite regular current production Partagas. But sadly, it's no replacement for the Series du Connoisseur, which were my previous favorite. I don't think I've ever tasted honey in these, but it's a stronger blend, with greater complexity and a unique spice that holds your attention. The No. 1 evolves and develops over the course of it's length, revealing new flavors as it progresses. No cigar has ever taken me on the "journey" that the SdC No. 1 has.

I agree and to me the SdC1 (and 2) offer more depth of flavour, when the 898 is more "in your face" spicy…

Between Smally, Shrink and Kommy they have said about all there is to say here. I think the 898 is a spotty product. I have smoked great ones and lousy ones. With the previous vast numbers of lonsdales they were low on the list. Today, with limited choices they have made a comeback. I can't say they hold a candle to the Party Seleccion Privada. Now that's a lonsdale! I actually used to prefer the Unvarnished variety over the dalia.

The SdC line is its own cigar. Do I like them better than the 898? Yes! But they are not better than all dalias or cervantes, great, but different. A great dalia, cervantes or delicados or parejos can easily satisfy me anytime I demand an extraordinary cigar.

The Partagas line has been destroyed for me. No more PC... I have one unbroken cab left. No more lonsdales, SdC, Seleccion Privada, Coronas...(in production) It is a damn shame. All the truly exquisite cigars from that line, now gone.

I feel the same way and not a day goes by without my lamenting the demise of so many brilliant cigars in this marca.
