anacostiakat Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Well I was wondering what I would smoke this evening and wanting something good. Some vino was opening up in the glasses so I started to rummage around a bit in the humi. Pulled out a box that was standing up from the back of one of the shelves and found it was a box of Upmann Mag 46's from JUL05. Took one out and immediately noticed some plume on it. Cut and fired it up and immediately noticed the opening strength of toasty tobac, leather and woodiness. Tingling taste buds harken to the beginnings of a good cigar from some black pepper. I hope. I really can not remember having a bad one of these though. Black pepper on the nose initially. Watching Back to Eternity (1956) with Rod Steiger, Robert Ryan and Anita Ekberg, Gene Barry, amoung others. Black and white film of a plane wreck in the SA jungles. Great show. This cigar at the first third right away elicits what I expect from an Upmann. Just beautiful creaminess starts to show up along with that Upmann sweet earthiness. But is also shows some fairly full bodied tobacco flavors. Yum. The nose is now smooth as silk. It is interesting, running my finger over the plume. Don't see a ton of plume on my cigars. Getting coffee about midway. Quite delicious. A very rich cigar. Little bit of pepper returns below the half way mark with leather predominent. What a great cigar. The last third shows a beautiful mixture of leather, coffee, slight black pepper and that earthiness that I love. They still have that animal quality I love in them. I would love to try some earlier ones to compare. Fantastic cigar.
dochowl Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Thanks for the review... I've got a few more of these from Jan 2006 that are delightful.
laficion Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Great review Jim, I 've always enjoyed a fine Mag 46, I love the class of this Corona Gorda. Complex, rich and animal is spot on. Thanks for a fine review. OH, and by the way," Back to Eternity " is a great film
