SmokinLightning Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Saint Lui Rey Lonsdale FOD JUL03 Forgive the fairly crappy photos, had to use my phone because my wife has the camera with her for some reason. A nice looking cigar, smooth slightly oily wrapper with no blemishes. Has a very hay/bready smell to it that I find appealing. Pre-light draw is solid dry hay. First initial puffs were rough, bitter and unpleasant... I was ready to be disappointed. After the first inch, she settled right down and the bitterness flowed away leaving behind a dry hay and floral green-tea-like flavor. Another inch or so and what I can only describe as burnt toast comes into the mix. Throughout the middle, the dry hay turned into a sweeter fresh cut hay, definite strong floral notes and a hint of leather over that slightly burnt toast backbone. Draw and burn are perfect, never requiring any sort of touchup. Not much change to the end, the toasted bread core faded a bit, and the floral aspect moved to the forefront. Never a hint of any real spice to liven it up, but an enjoyable, fairly refined cigar. I used to do these reviews quite often, and before putting this one on the forum I did a search for some old reviews out of curiosity. I actually reviewed this same cigar/box code almost 3 years ago, which is strange because this cigar came out of a full box, I must have had some singles as some point. I was pleased I had, because comparing my current notes I wrote while smoking this cigar to my old review I see they were very similar, which tells me two things: A. This cigar at this point has probably reached its potential if an additional 3 years brought no real changes and B. My palate is a little more astute than I thought, at least when compared to myself 3 years ago. I gave this cigar a 90 last time, which is really high for me these days... I have smoked some stellar cigars in the last few years. This time around Ill give it a solid 86, for me this score indicates an enjoyable everyday smoke that I will never be disappointed to find in my humidor. Thanks for reading! Dbone Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Nice KC. I have yet to have any SLR - although I'm waiting for Rob to pick me a box of Regios. This cigar had some years on it - good willpower keeping them so long! Is that your humidor in the corner? Thank you for the review(s)
thechenman Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Nice review...wish it were still a 90 for you though.
anacostiakat Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Yes, thanks for the review. I went through 2 boxes of these from 03 myself last year. I loved them.
