CBL Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 A schmoke and a pancake! Arabic coffee, sourdough pancakes from a starter I've given my love and attention for the past months and a beautiful Diplomaticos No. 4. All while studying for my midterm this afternoon! It's hard being a student
bc8436 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 That looks like a pretty nice spread there. My college cuisine consisted more along the lines of pizza, ramen and Natural 'Natty' Ice.

Dbone Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 LOL, my favorite Austin Powers. I copied the entire line. Great picture CBL Goldmember: Would you like a shmoke und a pancake? Austin Powers: A what? Goldmember: A shmoke und a pancake. You know, a flapjack und a shigarette? No? Shigar und a waffle? No? Pipe und a crepe? No? Bong und a blintz? No? Well, then there ish no pleashing you. Austin Powers: That's not right...
thechenman Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Never found the time to actually make my own food in college...there just wasn't enough time between ditching class and getting drunk.
bc8436 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 That's a nice looking pizza. If I was back in Taiwan now, I'd be eating 'beef noodle soup' and Din Tai Fung non-stop LOL

Heading back to Cali for Easter...there is a Din Tai Fung in Alhambra, but it does not even come close to the on in Taipei. The pork just tastes totally different, and the soup in the U.S. has a different texture to it.

Joe's Shanghai in NYC isn't that bad, I usually go there for my soup dumplings fix since you can't find them in Boston. I agree with your sentiments about the Alhambra location. Even the 'skin' feels a bit different.

I'd have to say they are probably the best soup dumplings I've had stateside, but still don't hold a candle to Din Tai Fung.
