traded Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Hey guys, I thought some might be interested in this thread. If its more of a "review" thread, please feel free to move it. I had my first of the Encantos this evening and thought it was very good. I loved the vitola...fairly new to me construction was perfect draw was perfect First third: overly woody and thus unbalanced to my taste. Some harshness in the back of the palate Second third: developing more complexity with dark roasted peanuts on top of the woodyness Third Third: Very similar to the second third but with fuller body and strength. Overall I very much enjoyed it. I am comfortable with the aging potential of these buggers. Now: 89/100 1-3 years: Who really knows? david
CBL Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm very interested in these! I'll decide on buying a box after The Friends post their review and maybe try a single first. Should have pretty decent aging potential, especially in that varnished cabinet!
Fatcigar Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Agreed They are very good and the 898 presentation was the right choice !
coneatty Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Tradedavid, Thanks for the quick review. Got a box myself, but I think I'm going to wait a few more months. Once I get into a box, it doesn't last too long.
melies Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks for the review I also have to wait for my box to settle a bit before trying one
El Presidente Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I have gone through plenty of these now. I find them really enjoyable but well below where I think they will peak. 3-5 years and they will be something very special I believe. However very smokeable now.
Colt45 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks for the notes - I've a box in storage, so it may be a while before I try one
Guest rob Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Prez, at this price point, do you see a better value (performance : price ratio) cigar in the same or similar vitola? Just a regular standard P 898 pehaps?

Colt45 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 The price point is thereabouts of the Partagas 898 V. While not exactly inexpensive (what full sized cigars are today), I was happily surprised at the pricing - thanks to those involved

I've had a couple from my box now and these are very approachable. I find PLPC's way too harsh/acrid when young, and need at least a few years before they begin to blossom. The Encantos however are really enjoyable now... in fact I'll probably try and find time to have another over the weekend now...
zmancbr Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Glad to hear these are smoking well now. I don't anticipate smoking many for the next few years till they get some age on them but I'm gonna have to try one soon. No way my willpower is strong enough to wait! Definitely have to tip my hat to all involved in this cigar as well. Perfect size and a decent price on them. Glad they didn't pick the $340+ club to put these in.
