Holysmokes Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hello all, I was wondering if someone can possibly PM me a reliable source that sells quality built large humidors (from 500$ to 1500$) I am a bit reluctant to buy a humidor online as the last experience I had left me very unhappy. I bought a geneve humidor about 1 month ago for over 400$ and I am left looking for a new one already. I appreciate your help and knowledge, as always. Thank you.
Colt45 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 If aesthetics are not an issue, my suggestion would be a large (100qt or larger) insulated beverage cooler (Igloo, Coleman, etc). Large capacity, and they are very good at maintaining a stable environment with little fuss. You can use the extra $$ for cigars
SCgarman Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 If you are looking for a quality cabinet humi try Aristocrat Humidors out of Texas. I don't know pricing, but they look very nice. Check out their site.

I'm torn, I wish aesthetics weren't a requirement, I am really looking for a piece of furniture that will complete my living room. lol, I don't think a coleman cooler would fit the bill I might simply buy a coleman cooler ot store some of my boxes tho, I like the idea. Oh and i forgot to mention the capacity of the humidor I am looking for: around 1000 cigars ( 20 boxes or so)

CUBANO Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Ed Sallee at www.waxingmoonwood.com does great work to your specifications.
michael69 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have a 300 count Elie Bleu I bought in the mid 90's. It is the best humidor money can buy. It maintains a 68/68 for many months at a time without any maintenance. I add an once of distilled water once or twice a year. Pricey, but well worth the investment. You can pick one up at any reputable cigar shop. They range from $1000 - $4000 depending on size and detail. I've also got two Elie bleu's (120 and 200 count) and I agree they truly are the rolls royce of humis. The construction is absolutely outstanding, and as paul says they hold the humidity level astonishingly well. I also have a larger cabinet, but I'm looking to upgrade that to a bigger one, so I'll probably be selling my Elie Bleu's. PM if anyone's interested in maybe buying one or both; they are the matte mahogany (they match beautifully, and I had them made to my exact specs; I'll be sad to see them go.... truth be told, they will probably not be needed once I have a big cabinet)
khomeinist Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Have you ever dealt with them personally? Or seen their products in person? Most serious American collectors I know have experience with Aristocrat. I can say that I have never heard a negative comment. I don't want to turn this into shilling for any particular company, but I would advise you to do some research on the forums and decide what best fits your needs and budget. Your need for temperature control, for example, may depend on your geographic location. Good luck

bc8436 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Can't go wrong with an Aristocrat. It's a very well-respected brand and I've seen a couple in person. Excellent build quality and they look great too. I decided to go with a cheaper brand and bought an Avallo 1000 cabinet. It's a bit cheaper than an Aristocrat as it uses less wood and is not as well-established of a brand. It just arrived last week so I'm still in the process of seasoning it, but so far, it looks good. The RH% seems to be steady. Depending on your budget, a Wineador with Waxing Moon shelves might be a great idea too. It's a very popular combination lately here in the US.

I have bought several humidors from Bob Staebell at Aristocrat. He is one of the nicest guys in the cigar accessories business. He will give you personal service -- call him. You don't have to buy. If he doesn't have what you really want, he will recommend someone who can fill your needs. I am taking the liberty of posting a link to his site for you to look around. I am sure some zealous mod will edit my post to delete the link if I am out of line. http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/
mtw Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I got a cabinet humidor from Matt Avallo out of Nashville, TN. He's got a website (can't remember the address). He was very easy to deal with. Couldn't be happier.
Firewiz25 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Aristocrat Humidors...... I have one and many of the guys I know have them too. Awesome customer service and a great product. Bob Stebell makes a quality product and you can call him and design your own.
Van55 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I should also give you the name of Arlin Liss. Arlin is a personal friend who builds totally original humidors from exotic woods with the most high-tech of temperature and humidification controls. For a hand-made heirloom of a humidor, Arlin is your guy, but his price will be outside the parameters in your original post. http://www.arlinliss.com
Mr.T Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have an Aristocrat and I am very, very pleased with it. Bob is great to work with.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I have a "CanuckSARTech Special", and it works great!
sblevit Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Bob is building a custom cabinet for me that is supposed to be complete any day now. So I'll let you know soon how it works out.
ramon_cojones Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Just spoke to Bob today as a matter of fact, a first class gentleman. I must have asked him 90 questions over the course of months perhaps just to even try to annoy him, unphased he remained. Mine will be done in two more weeks, about 55 count so I imagine a 20-30 would be within your budget.

I realize the cooler does not meet your requirements but its really the most effiecient solution out there. Best of luck, please post pictures when you get want you want.
Holysmokes Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 So I have contacted Bob from Aristocrat Humidors and I am going with the Aristocrat Plus 48". I can't wait to receive this beautiful piece of art. I was torn between that one and the Aristocrat M I really want to thank everyone for the suggestions, they were extremely helpful. This forum always comes through!!!!
SCgarman Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Let us know when you get it and post a pic! Enjoy!

Unfortunately she hasn't broken yet.
SCgarman Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 An Aristocrat will be my next and final humidor purchase, but for now my 1500ct end table cabinet will do. Mine does a fine job and looks good, but it is not Aristocrat quality and I will also have to convince the wife to let me drop a couple of grand one day.
josie67 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Have you ever dealt with them personally? Or seen their products in person? I have one of his Aristocrat THC end tables, and the quality is absolutely top notch. It is temp and humidity controlled and will hold a good 1,000 cigars. You can't go wrong.
LuciusSulla Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 These high end humidors are indeed works of art, and I have spent the past 30 minutes lusting after several on these sites that have been posted. However, "coolidor" is still one of the best words ever coined.
