More pics on my blog.

Very proud of my grilling ability -- i love steaks and i'm very happy when i get it right (8 out of 10 times, i suppose).

Grilled this as my pre-Tampa meal on Sunday. I figured a good cigar deserved a good meal to precede it. I was right, smoking the Tampa after this was a real joy.

Great grill marks, medium rare! just like I love it!

Probably just a touch over medium rare... medium rare the reddish center would be more red... ;)

But damn nice piece of meat. Olive oil, thyme, pepper and sea salt for seasoning. Slapped it on the griller for 3.5 minutes each side, let it rest for 5 minutes, then eat.

Heavenly.

Makes my mouth water! If it wasn't 2 minutes after midnight I would fire up the BBQ!

It wasn't anything exotic or premium like ribeye or tenderloin.

Top chuck? i think is the name of the cut. Cheap, but since it was cooked medium, the meat was very tender and melt in the mouth.

Nice skills you have there...that picture is making me long for the spring and firing up t he grill. 6 more days till spring, but unfortunately a lot longer than that before it warms up here in NY.

Aiz...I just happened to notice on second glance that there are no greens on your plate...is that a statement?

Looks excellent -- medium cooked to me.

How expensive is a cut of beef that size in Malaysia? Here in the U.S. I would expect to pay anywhere from $10.00 per pound (on sale) to perhaps as much as $15.00 per pound -- again depending on the cut and the grade of beef.

I haven't travelled to the Pacific rim, but my experience in Europe is that beef steaks are relatively hard to come by in most commercial restaurants by comparison to here in the US.

Hahah, no there just weren't any veges in the fridge at the time! :P

Van55,

Prime cuts of beef are quite expensive here in Malaysia, since most are imported in from Australia, and sometimes New Zealand. There are several high-end shops that sell beef imported from the US, but i haven't really tried those yet.

The cut in pics was about... 260g (about 9 ounces or 0.57 pounds) for RM9.50 or about US$3.00. Not sure if you'd consider that expensive or not for a piece of meat. Fresh from Australia.

That cut is actually considered cheap meat. Ribeyes and tenderloins and t-bones, etc. Those go for quite a bit more. 250g ribeye will cost about RM30 (US$10).

It's really tough to beat a nice dry aged ribeye steak. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

wow, I've never paid more than $7.99/lb for a good cut of steak. $3.00 is a pretty good price.
