Upcoming wedding in August (mine), and would like to provide cigars for the guests. Worried about finding cigars with appropriate aging. I'm new around here, but if you've seen my other posts then you already know of my love for the Bolivar PCs. I'm a big PC, Corona, and Robusto fan- but aside from the Bolivar PC, the only cigars I've smoked have been aged for some time. (Cohiba, PSD4, HdM, Monte #2, etc.) I figure anything I buy now for August will only be about a year old. So do a just scoop up a few boxes of the Bolivar PCs? Or should I mix it up? What else smokes well "young". Thanks for the recommendations!

Your basic wedding consists of people that don't know the difference between a NC or Cuban. Also, most cigars are smoked at weddings after much liqs have been consumed. The best thing you could do is get, say a box of Monte #4's and call it a day. I only say Monte's because at least people will recognize the name. Again, if you come from a family of cigars smokers and you think that people are really expecting something GREAT, then maybe you look for something with some age or maybe a EL or RE. -Patrick
Professor Twain Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I like the Hoyo Petit Robusto for this... nice mild sweet taste when they are young, come in a beautiful slide box, great band, packed nicely with the yellow ribbon around the bundle... short cigar, and not super expensive. If people take a few puffs and pitch them. no big deal. Try to get the cancer sticker off of them before you go to the wedding though... empty out the box and use a hair dryer.

I completely agree with KB24 that unless you know your guests are really into cigars there is no need to get anything really fancy. Save that money for something special with a date code of you wedding for you to enjoy in the future. I am leaning towards a cab of PLPC or possibly something RyJ. PLPC argument because they will not be too full bodied for non regular smokers, good size and price. RyJ because its kinda wedding themed which my fiance finds cute.

Cohiba is iconic and the strength and flavor will appeal to wider range of people who may not normally smoke. They are usually great when young too.

Except I'll be smoking whatever I buy, so I'd like them to be palatable. Is a fresh Monte #4 going to taste alright? I'm familiar with the #2, but have only had well aged versions.

Hadn't thought about the RyJ aspect. Hopefully both of our relationships go better than theirs.

Alternatively, there are a couple of nice LE's in a short Robusto such as the H. UPMANN MAGNUM 48 LIMITED EDITION 2009 or, depending on your budget, the Trinidad Short Robusto T LE 2010. Both of these have sweet looking double bands that would add the the elegance of the presentation.

The other was a cheaper, though ok cigar, for guests who might want to puff a bit and toss the stick. You should definitely get something super special for yourself. If you don't have something that fits the bill, let me know and I can hook you up with a BHK or something. d

Trini's might actually do better after a bit of age. The 2009 Mag 48's, however, are actually very good right now and are an excelent smoke. Professor, That is a spot on recommendation. No need for a bummer at the wedding. Will try the hair drier next time as I have just defaced a box of Monte # 2.

Just a couple boxes of Monte #4s will do perfect.
MoneyPit Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 We had an indoor reception and stepping out for a smoke would have distanced ourselves quite far from the rest of the party. I will tell you that the time will fly if you have a big reception and go through all the traditional wedding festivities. If the situation permits I would suggest choosing something that wouldn't require your full attention.

RyJ is a widely known marca, and the theme behind the brand goes well with your wedding festivities. The Mille Fleur is a good smoke...does not require much attention or time and is very inexpensive while still being a hand rolled Cuban cigar.
