I warm my fingers very often. I also have burnt my upper lip twice. It's a no-can-do situation when a cigar is so delicious! :D

And to clint's comment:

In my opinion reviews should not be written if not smoking the cigar completely.

*There have been some that were really fabulous that I finished just down to the cigar band, which I think is satisfactory. Otherwise, if it starts to singe my tongue from running out of flavor and smoothness after the last third - it's done.

Interesting Hutch. I've never cut and draw test cigars when I am heading out but sounds reasonable. Maybe I'll give it a try. Nothing worse than having a dud then having to buy an NC that seems to always disappoint.

I usually smoke the first 2/3 and consider the last 1/3 the "handle"..... Occasionally I'll smoke into the handle, but when I do I usually wish I didn't.

When a cigar is really rocking my world I'll smoke it til I can't hold it any more. That doesn't happen often enough unfortunately. Usually I finish a decent cigar with about an inch left. Every now and then I chuck it before the first third is over if it really sucks, luckily that doesn't happen too often either.

I watch some videos from a guy online that reviews alot of great (and expensive) Cuban cigars, he also does written reviews as well. I noticed in one of his photos that his ashtray was full of half finished cigars (no nubs). I guess some people think that after the first half the cigar is all downhill from there. I don't believe this to be true but to each his own.

I completely agree with all said above by Clint and dB69. A cigar definitely needs to be smoked completely on the average to be properly reviewed.

I would consider "completely" smoking a cigar to be smoking it, at least, through the first two-thirds. You need to smoke a cigar through the 1st and 2nd thirds to know how it's developing.

If a cigar is great, then I'll smoke it right through the last third, past the point of the cigar band (which I usually find the band is about mid-way on the final 3rd). I'll take the band off once I'm into the last third, and will smoke it until there's about an inch or so left, but I don't bother to burn my lips or fingertips.

However, if a cigar is too young and harsh maybe, once I get into the final third and things tang up, I'll usually set it down at that point. There's been a few times when cigars have been so horrible tasting that I've set them down once I'm done the first third. I don't believe you have to "suffer through" a cigar, and that you have to absolutely smoke it completely, but I do think you have to give it a chance, and so I'll usually give at least the first third a go.

But, a decent cigar should be smoked fully 2/3 of the way through. A great and non-harsh cigar usually right up to, and past, the band.

Sometimes I will smoke it way down, but usually I just leave an inch. Agree that if youre gonna review a cigar, you gotta smoke it down to the allow the flavors to evolve.

I smoke until the flavor turns on me. No point in going any past there. I have burnt my fingers once or twice while smoking some cigars that just kept their true flavors and didn't turn harsh at any point.

Every now and then when I get a flavor bomb, I will put the cigar on a toothpick and smoke it down to nothing. Ive even used tweezers to avoid burning my fingers.

Usually down to an inch or so. Very occaisonally, when it's really good, I'll smoke it further. But usually by this stage it's either burning hot or just tastes rough.

I'll smoke many down to an inch or so...one that was rally enjoyable I thought I was going to have to bring out the hemostats

Hemostats...as in the medical equipment to clamp things such as veins and arteries? Wow! That is simply awesome! I can only imagine the consternation on other's faces when I bust that out at the next gathering. Gonna get me one from the ER.

I usually just stick a toothpick in it.

I'll tell you something about smoking them all the way down, though. No matter what brand I smoke, or what the flavor profile starting out, they all get to tasting very woody in the last inch. :P

I smoke the cigar until the last half inch or so.

Then i take the nub, chuck it into my pipe, and ash it.

WINNAH! :D:)

I once smoked a cigar nearly 5,000 miles away from my house, that's pretty far.

But on a serious note, I use to thread a 3" wood screw into the last little bit of a cigar. I guess like a roach clip. Not saying I ever used a roach clip!! LOL

Burnt my fingers and lips on countless occasions. Haven't resorted to the pipe yet, but maybe one day if it is exceptional.
