investandprosper Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Upmann Sir Winston TUG AGO 09 Prelight: Rich tobacco, flawless construction. I punch the cap, and the Draw at cold tastes of sweet tea. The foot lights with ease, and I’m greeted with a fantastic aroma of toasted Cuban tobacco, muttled with a smooth creamyness. This aroma takes me back to the first Cuban I ever smoked, just a classic. The draw is perfect, the burn razor sharp. Great amounts of smoke with every draw. Venturing into the first third, the body picks up to just a touch above medium, with warm spices hitting the back of the throat. The upmann flavor profile is very evident, with that great musky aroma as I take a draw. The sweetness still lingers on. What a delightfully complex cigar. About halfway through the first third, I started picking up some chocolate. I clipped the cap at this point because I wanted access to more of that delicious smoke, and boy did that do the trick! On the tail end of the first third, the flavor picks up considerably. Lots of sweet spice through the nose. Razor sharp burn, and a richness that I’m having trouble putting into words. Sublime. The richness continued into the second third, joined with notes of cocoa and honey. A sweet spice is prominent, and reminds me of the holidays. Copious amounts of rich, delicious smoke flow from the perfect draw. Clipping the cap was definitely the right thing to do with this cigar. The fantastic flavors intensified as the final third approached. Into the final third, the body has moved up to full, with a rich spice and baked bread dominating the palate. Retrohaling (which I never do on the final third) produces an abundance of flavor, delightfully complex and is like a hot spiced drink on Christmas eve. Fantastic cigar, a solid 93! 1
investandprosper Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Haha, no worries bro Only my second Sir Winnie ever, and it was insane!
almudawi Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Wow. I have always wanted to try one of those. And I am really considering a box of those a cigar to celebrate my 1st niece birthday (for the next 25 years). Maybe I should ask ElPres to hook me up with a Premium Quality Box. Awesome review btw bro
thechenman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Nice review John...very nice. I love this cigar.
sg1234 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Nice review. I was hoping to let these rest a while, but your review makes me want to dip into my box sooner rather than later.
investandprosper Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Infanticide Joey, can't say I understand your post? That's not something to joke about, especially to someone with two young kids.
sosamscott Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I think what he's trying to say is that you committed murder by smoking this cigar with only 1 year of age on it, an infant cigar making it infanticide.... not that I agree. As far as I'm concerned there was no crime here, just a great smoke!
mbrody Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Great review John...I have a beautiful 08 Box. Hoping that I have a simliar experience when I can properly dry one out a bit..
Charltonc Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Nice review, I think I will have a magnum 46 for breakfast because I don't have any Sir Winston.
CanuckSARTech Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Another great Sir Winston review. I'm very jealous of you all, getting to enjoy these long, pleasant smokes right now (while we're hunkered down with the first real bits of winter snow hitting). Great step-by-step pictures, and thanks very much for sharing, I&P.
gsmoke Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I, unfortunately, have yet to smoke a sir Winston thAt hasn't been plugged to all hell. Have smoked about 5 in the last two years and never had the experience you had. But I will keep trying. They sound too good not to keep trying...
#2 man Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 These pictures are fantastic your review is making me think about a great box just sitting at the bottom of my cab...................Great job !

I'm not really a believer in saving cigars for special occasions. If I got hit by a bus tomorrow, I'd wished I'd smoked the best I had and enjoyed them. Thanks for the comments everyone! Truly one of the best cigars of the year for me.
bolivr Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Excellent thanks for the pics and review. Love the Upmann flavour but not tried this vitola. Looks like its added to the shopping list
