Giuseppe Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 So the past few weeks I have been looking for a good cigar forum that seems interesting, is not so uptight and is at least somewhat active...I think I found the right place. So I gave my little intro in the intro section further down the forums and now its on to some important business relating to this hobby of ours. This is essentially a copy and paste from another forum that I posted because I did not feel like typing it out again. Hey gang, new here and could use some of your experience and input. I recently created a guys lounge in an extra room in the house a few months ago and I really need to work on getting some better venting or cleaning of the air in there. I know it is inevevitable that evereything will end up smelling like stogies but I would like to keep it down as much as I can. I currently have just a bionare sub $100 purifier (which just throws out the smell of more smoke now instead of purified air) and a dual window fan unit. I keep the air moving and going out, but it is still sub par in my opinion. I was originally thinking of purchasing a good quality air purifier unit (which are not cheap) but now I think that perhaps adding a ceiling blower/fan type of unit similar to that of a bathroom would be a better choice. I would assume that by the time all is said and done pricing between the two options would be close. Which of the two options do you think would work out better? Any input is appreciated on the subject. Also, which company would you suggest regarding a good quality air purifier? Preferably one that you have had experience with. The room is approx 10x15x12 Thanks G Cliff notes, I am a big boy now with my first big boy house and I need to keep my big boy fun room smelling clean. 2 options Get an expensive purifier or call some guys to come cut my roof, rip open some sheetrock, run some wire, and put in an exhaust fan. I think the costs will be essentially the same but which is better? Anyone with experience?
JoshMP Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I don't even think you need to go as far as an air purifier, just a simple motion sensor airfreshener type job. You can pick them up from most supermarkets for around $7-$12. The last few houses I have lived in I've used one of these and haven't had any issues at all. Smoke with a window open to be extra sure. That and being pretty rigid about putting your cigar stubs outside when you finish smoking as a lot of the stale smell seems to come from them. Welcome!
mbrody Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Welcome to the Forum. As a big boy myself, I am trying one of the commercial versions of these Smoke Eaters in my Garage (which is my Man Cave). Here is a residential version: http://www.homesmokeeater.com/ I went with this type of product based upon an electrician's recommendation. I will know how it does soon enough! BTW, I really need to get rid of the smoke and smell without venting outside.
Giuseppe Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 @Josh, I tried that route and unfortunatley it still did not work out well. @Brody, You going to recieve it anytime soon? The problem I am having with some of the more expensive air purifiers is that its hard to come across many people who have used them to get their input. Oh, and the big boy thing was because my buddy was breathing down my neck all nite and calling me big boy.. kinda inside joke while I was on the web.
cigcars Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 *I always have a stick of incense (from India) burning the whole time I'm smoking. I find that the cigar smoke doesn't stay in the room too long afterwards, or is not as heavy as it would be without it.
