Bolivar Bonita 07 free style review

Bolivar Bonitas were discontinued in 2009, a shame really because I like them a lot. My box is from 2007 and I've smoked maybe six of them. Half of them have been medium bodied and somewhat average and half have been full bodied and excellent. This time I chose the darkest and oiliest of them all. Let's see if that counts.

My avec of choice was black lager beer from a small brevery. I felt that the cigar needed a strong companion. The avec was actually more expensive than my cigar.

First impressions of the cigar were full bodied. Full bodied from the beginning! Yikes! Spice was hitting hard, it made my tongue tingle. Then it mellows down just a little bit to reveal cocoa and black tea. Then the spice hits again!

Second third of the cigar were pretty much like the first. Some puffs were full of strong spice and black coffee. Then some puffs were filled with smoother, darker flavours like black tea and cocoa. Strength was still building up!

Last third was too much for me. I couldn't take it. I had to put it down. With little less strength these are fantastic. Now, I score this one 3/5 - good.

I've smoked a few from 07 & 08. Pretty good cigar (Hey, it's a Bolivar!). But if I'm buying, I'd get the PC. To my taste stronger & more complex than the Bonita.

Never had any of these, but I guess they would probably be too much for me, too. Had to put down a RASS some time ago for the same reason. Would be interesting to try though. Thanks for sharing.

I've only tried a couple of different boxes of them. I enjoy the Bonitas and the Corona JR's more than the PC's.

That said I do have some young 09 PC's, that are some of the best Boli PC's I've had in some time.
