Australia's own Tommy Emmanuel has excellent smile-inducing powers too.

January 1987, I first heard Metallica, Iron Maiden was regular play on my LP player.

May 9, 1989.... I saw Metallica at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney (when they used to be good) and it changed my life forever.

Downloaded one song to my mp3 player. I'm generally not a big fan of covers.

Back in the late 70's I sat in a small Pub here in Brisbane with a couple of friends and on the stage just a couple of feet away sat Tommy and his brother Phil Emmanual.

They were so close that if Tommy swung his guitar to the right he might have hit me in the head.

We didn't know it at the time but the two brothers that we weren't paying much attention to would one day be world renown, well Tommy at least. Phil is also an excellent guitarist but never became as famous.

Have you ever seen the trick Tommy does where he plays two tunes simultaneously on the one guitar?

I listened to a live Metallica concert on public radio one very late night back in '88. I could'nt believe what I was hearing! I still remember how blown away I was to this day. Since then I saw them whenever I could. Including a surprise parking lot appearance at the 2003 Championship game at Oakland Colliseum. Turns out Hetfield is a born and bred Raiders fan. Awesome! :lol3:

Any metal heads out there? I remember wearing out Sabbaths Master of Reality when I was in 7th grade! Man... I am getting old. ;)

Rob,

fellow Metallicat here. I first saw them 1988 as part of the Monsters of Rock tour, they were second on the set list along with Dokken, Scorpions and Van Halen. They really stole the show and changed the direction of rock for at least a decade.

I'd also have to say with their latest release they're back in good form. Certainly older, as we all are, but still kicking ass. I understand they're heading your way in September. It may be worth checking them out again.

Proud to say that I share the same birthday with Jamz, 8/3/63, and remember when they were into cigars.

Speaking of Sabbath, and getting old, my 15 year old son asked me a couple months ago if I ever heard of Ozzy and Randy Rhoads. that brought back memories and I still remember what a monster Randy was on guitar. He's still relevant almost 30 years after Blizzard of Ozz.

Randy was a big part of the mix when I was doing Hollyweird with Quiet Riot when you could stumble in to the Troubadour on a wing and a prayer. Sat too close to David Lee one night at the Starwood.(what an ahole) Was the beginning of an infamous fight. Ahh. The good times!
