jsd Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Like some of the other reviews this weekend, this is my first attempt at actually writing it out. Also my first attempt at uploading pics on this forum so I hope it works. For the most part I'm usually a "either I like it or I don't" guy. This review will be a little tougher for me as it hasn't been quite 3 weeks since my tonsillectomy (don't tell my doctor) and my tastes aren't quite back to normal, but here goes... This is a box that I got in early 07 before I became aware of our good friends here at FOH and the Czar. Not quite through half the box yet. My beverage of choice lately has been RC Cola. If you haven't tried it with a cigar I highly recommend it. The appearance of this cigar is perfect in my opinion. It has a nice, creamy brown color and is very smooth to the touch. I love the aroma of this cigar. It is cedary and has the other wonderful aroma that only Havanas have. The draw is perfect and has a nice creamy pre-light taste. Initial tastes after lighting are cedar and a hint of what reminds me of honey. I do not notice any spice or bitterness. Unfortunately I am unable to notice any changes in the flavor profile in this cigar. Don't get me wrong, it tastes good, but it is rather boring. I am sure that is more because of my tonsillectomy and not because of the cigar itself. The cigar burned fairly evenly and I did not have to touch it up at all. Overall I enjoyed this cigar and smoked it down about as far as any other cigar that I enjoy. I am disappointed that I was not able to discern any changes throughout the cigar. Again, I am sure it is because of my palate being not quite back to normal. I just wanted to take a crack at smoking a cigar and actually writing about the experience.
dicko Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Thanks for the review, and looking forward to more from you. Royal corona and royal crown!
maalouly Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Intersting to hear that you thought it didn't change flavours, I think BRC is one of the most complex robustos out there, again shows that Ken's and Guy's theory is correct, some boxes that are coming from specific factories seem to be superior to others.
shrink Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Thanks for your review and pix of one of my favorite cigars. I've only a handful left from a box of POS FEB06, and they keep getting better and better. Wish I'd bought a mastercase of these puppies. The last one was as complex a cigar as could be imagined: leather, wood, black pepper, citrus, fruit, and cocoa... just for starters. Are you sure that was a tonsillectomy he perfomred?
thechenman Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 RC Cola! Wow...haven't seen a can of that in more than a decade. Remember drinking it as a kid...
greenpimp Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I have Bolivar RCs with the same date/code, that are ass-kickers, still too strong. (they are also very dark.) The 2 boxes of Bolivar Inmensas I have with the same date/code are absolutely outstanding, among the best cigars I have. Early 06 put out some great cigars, IME.
Disburden Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 That is a serious box of smokes, pos 06! Thanks for the review and the pictures as well.
