El Presidente Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Our friend in Havana is trying hard to crack the freelance journalism market. I have agreed that she can write for FOH on topics of general interest and we are always happy to pay a fee for a decent article. She has requested a series of topics which may be of interest to members here on life in Cuba. Give us a hand getting her started. Is there a topic you would like to see an article written about? Cheers
Warren Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Sounds like a nice idea. What about an article about a day in the life of an average cigar roller.
OZCUBAN Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hard to think under pressure, but i would ask, what do real Cubans think about the embargo ,and the possible end to it and what they think about American Culture/Western culture in general/and there own government, and what they think the future hold for them Cheers OZ
Ryan Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Kudos to Yaima. Great idea. With the recent reforms we're been hearing about, eg. private hairdressing salons, bus drivers allowed to earn profit etc. are Cubans hopeful that these changes will continue and progress to something that will affect more workers. That is, are the reforms regarded a serious political experiment or an attempt to evade scrutiny of more pressing issues? Is daily life and access to everyday necessities getting easier or more difficult for the average Cuban than say 5, 10, 15 years ago. If speaking freely, would more cubans blame the embargo or the cuban administration. If the embargo was dropped and the political situation changes drastically in Cuba. What are the concerns, if any, that cubans would have regarding the shift? The are many older Russians who miss the communist system, possibly the sense of solidarity and less worry about certain aspects of life.
dcse Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 What does the average Cuban smoke? Vitola, marque etc. What would the lifting of the embargo mean for the man on the street? What is their general wiew on the future and what the future holds for them?
laficion Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Cuba is so rich culturally, I'm sure that Yaima will have no problem finding lots of different sujects to write about. As for me, I would love to read about the cultural heritage in the city of Santiago de Cuba left by the French or the Spanish, how have all the different traditions been passed down to today's generation. I truly fell in love with this city on my last trip to Cuba, it's traditions, the people with their warm welcome, the carnivals, the unique music, and of course it's french influence on the city with the introduction of coffee on the Island. On a side note, I was really very surprised to see how many residents of Santiago spoke a perfect French. A unique city with a lot of SOUL

laficion Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Excellent Colt That in itself would be quite an article on Cuba today

gammon Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 What Colt 45 says " a day in a life" . What are in the stores, since the last six months. . A view of a cuban's family life . (from the different social groups, that is the store vender, manager, the worker, the guy on the street, the person playing the musical instrument on the street). . In a apartment block, how many have completed high school, the number of people working in the field they have studied for? . How does socialism effect their lively hood. becoming a member, a nonmember, and the monthly/weekly meetings they have. . What are their corner stones in life as a Cuban ( no political discussion- just the point of view from the top to the simple security guard for the social offices.). . How is the wealth distributed from the top of the prymiad to the bottom of the social structure, short of the normal 150 to 420 pesos per month they get plus ration? . what are the opinions of the people, for those lovely homes built by the Venezuelan government, and were they evenly distributed between the people of Cuba. . . I will dig up more topics,as the articles comes along. ,. Hope I did not bring up any fire storm of a topic!
