rock Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 This is the first cigar I have smoked of this brand and I love it. It is a mild cigar with spice. If any one knowes why were these cigars D/Ced? What do you think of this brand? How do the Churchills compare to the regios or the Serie A? I usually like full flavored cigars but have really loved this cigar it is from may 07.
bassman Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 The Churchill & Lonsdale are the mildest SLRs. If you like full flavor, look for some early 07 DCs.
cigcars Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 *It was the first really authentic premium box of habanas I managed to acquire - back in about 1998. The rich honeyed and caramel aromas, and the warm embrace of smooth, heavy havana smoke filled the atmosphere and my nostrils in true ecstatic joy!

Colt45 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 If any one knowes why were these cigars D/Ced? What do you think of this brand? More than likely, they were discontinued because they were not big sellers. Overall, I'm not a big fan of the line - I've generally found them to be on the bland side.
laficion Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 For me, the best of the line are the Series A and when you can find them ,the Lonsdale. In general, I enjoy all of what is left of the brand SLR , which unfortunately is not much

Again, some of the poor examples produced from 99-03 didn't help the cause. There really were some insipid releases plagued with construction issues. Later examples 06-08 much better with also some stellar 05's. If I find great SLR Regios and Serie A's then they are up there with the best cigars of all.

Agreed totally had 2 cabs of 50 from 2001. very hit and miss, but when these were on they were absolutely on. wiped out a cab and a half on my 40th recently (cigars for everyone whoo hoo) but have some left that will continue to teas me until finished. spiro
cigaraholic Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm one of the lucky ones that got some stellar 05's. Ordered two boxes from my friend in St Martin and they were some of the most beautiful cigars I'd ever seen, dripping with oil just like BP. Ordered two more right away and they were identical. Rolled like bricks and smoke like butter, amazing flavors. I smoke them on special occasions and when I want a 95+ cigar. I've just started my second box..........I'm going to miss them!

Must have gotten a bad box. I got a box of HQ 08 Regios from Lisa, that are strong for a SLR & very slow burning. Excellent cigars.

ksblazer Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Saint Luis Rey's are one of my favorite lines. As the Pres said some of the 99-03 stuff wasn't that great and that turned me off about their entire line. Then about 3 years ago I decided to give them another try. I purchased some PC's and they quickly became one of my favorites. Especially a box of 05's with dark wrappers. After that I started trying other SLR's and found that I liked the DC's, Regios and Lonsdales. Tried a 2001 Churchill and didn't care for it but I look forward to sampling a more recent one after reading your reply's. Also want to try the recent SLR Serie A's. If I remember correctly. Ken & Rob were quite impressed with the one's they reviewed.
