Just got a box of R&J Short Church hills/slight box press (OTS May 09) They looked and smelled wonderfull, but the one I smoked was a bit on the acrid side and lacked character. The draw and the burn were great. Has anyone noticed that these need a bit of aging? My first post, love the forum, the best out there..

Cant really say anything about these re age... But the ones I´ve tried certainly lacked of caracter. But then again, Im starting to realize that the RyJ isnt my cup of tea when it comes to cigars...

I've smoked a couple & am not impressed. For non Cazadores RyJ smokes, I really like the EX#3s.

Had a 3-pack of Short Church tubos that were fantastic. Proceeded to buy a box, which did not turn out good: acrid and lack of character sums it up pretty good in my book aswell. I do not see my box getting any better with time, so I have started to pass them around as gifts.... Much better luck with the Dukes. 5 boxes by now, all in 90`s territory.

I've tried 4 or 5 singles upon release and didn't enjoy anyone... Acrid and bitter pretty much sums it up. Some woody character that I did not enjoy. I guess I won't be giving another try soon.

Really not a fan of this cigar. Got a box when they first came out and thought they were bland. Let them sit until last year and while they did improve I still didnt care much for them.

Unfortunately the wife loved them so I got another box and thought they were not to my likeing.

I am not getting more no matter what the wife thinks. :)

I have a box of June 07's in my robusto rotation that I think are pretty decent. Wood, toasted tobacco, white pepper, a bit of dried fruit.

No bitterness to speak of. I can't really recall what these were like really young, but I don't remember them being bad in any way.

I think their nice looking cigars and they smoke good, not my favorite robusto. BRC 06 and 08 are 5 times the cigar. I prefer the robusto format and would say that the RASS and BRC are my favs. R&J could become a nice morning cigar with a coffe.

I've only smoked RyJ Short Churchills in the tubos presentation and I, too, thought they were fantastic. Based on all the comments here, when I re-up I'll stick with the tubes.

+1 for the tubos call.

I've been smoking tubos up until now and recently been making my way through a 10 box. Not the same cigars which is a shame, as when they're good they're regular 89 pt cigars for me.

Weird that there's a difference between the tubo and the regular dress box. The dress box cigars are box pressed and the tubo seems to be of normal shape. I need to give the tubo a try. I would have to give the cigar a solid 87. I'll revisit in a few months. The acrid taste could be defined as citrus. I will say the final third is much improved over the first third.

In my experience R&J Short Churchill need to have a defined reddish wrapper and a pungent fruit/tobacco aroma at cold in order to perform.

if you get this combination i have found them to have a lovely R&J sweet cherry edge and enough body to keep me interested. Hard to find.

I'll give the tubo a try next time. They are mild, which is good, but would be happier without the acrid taste up front.
