I currently have an Xikar Envoy 3 Cigar Case, however I am looking to upgrade to something a little larger. I would prefer that it provide a humidification device and enough room for a weeks supply vs. a couple days. I really like the look of the Envoy (brown leather with tan stitching) and would appreciate a similar design. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for the assistance!

I agree with the hard plastic foam lined cases. They're available in various capacities and do a great job protecting cigars. My one suggestion would be to not add

moisture to any humidification device within. These cases are air tight, and I've found they hold humidity very well - at times too well. I actually use a cigar tube

which I've drilled holes in and filled with crystal cat litter in order to keep humidity down - you could also use dry humidity beads. This is, of course, my own

personal experience.

I use a 10 ct Cigar Caddy for my trips. Holds up to 10 Churchill sized cigars safely. Very dependable. Virtually crushproof.

I also use the cigar caddy and it protects the cigars very well. I'm pretty clumsy and decided to use it after I dropped one too many cigars. I don't use any humidification device in these either and the cigars seem fine.

I use the Xikar hard cases (5/10/15/25 +)

Agree with Colt, they do work best without a humidity source. The seal is such that unless you are using it for permanent storage, they don't need it.

My vote would be for a Cigar Caddy as well. I have a 5 count and I believe an 18 or 20 count. They are fantastic for traveling. There ir really not much of a difference between the Xikar and Cigar Caddy cases other than asthetics.

I have the Xikar hard plastic that hold 20-25 and I love it. It has a small humidification device in it but I don't use it. I have found that it keeps the cigars a little damp so I use one of those drymistat tubes with 65% beads in it and it works great. If it is just for short term travel, you usually don't need to have any humdification since it is so airtight. It is perfect for a weeks vacation. Holds the cigars very secure inside, holds a good many cigars, and is still fairly small.

I like my 5 & 10 count cigar caddies. I've removed the foam in each and lined them with Spanish cedar. Removing the foam allows MORE sticks and the humidification device of your choice. :P

Would be interested to know what you do when you need to transport e.g. a Lusi and a Shorts together. Do such versatile travel humis exist?

Kanga...the Xikar and Cigar Caddy travel humidors have a spongy foam, the kind you find in computer or camera storage cases used for transport. Those are grooved to hold each cigar individually. In the larger cases, there are multiple levels. The pressure on the foam when you close the container helps hold the cigars in place.

Thanks to everyone for the input! I found a nice Xikar HC 10 count travel humidor that I'm confident will do the trick.

I'm going to buy a 10ct Cigar Caddy for my next vacation. I talked to a guy of an online store and they custom carve cigar shaped pieces of cedar to lay in one of the rows. It adds the nice humidor smell and he told me that it would be the best way to get some humidity into the box if you intend to travel for a longer time. Just shortly rinse it with destilled water, let it soak it up, place it in a center row and lay two cigars in tubes or cellophane next to it.

Also as a local shop has got them Caddies just not the cedar sticks and I would prefer buying it there, I was wondering if I could just use those small blocks from the bottom row of 25ct cigar boxes and round them off a bit to have the same effect. They are cedar too, right?

I'd very much like to read your opinions on this (even if you think it is absolute nonsense).

Cheers,

Michael
