JoshMP Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Inspired by the Indoors or Outdoors thread - What do you all think about the difference between smoking during the day, say over lunch, or in the evening? A recent change in my working schedule has meant I have had the opportunity to smoke a lot more cigars in the middle of the day and I have to say I seem to enjoy it slightly less across the board. Something about the excess heat of the day and a bit more wind prevelance I think. Though it is glorious to smoke a cigar in a nice patch of sun. I also find it kind of irritating not being able to, as clearly, see how my cigar is burning (just a little gripe there). What do you all think? Do you specifically smoke only at one time of the day or night? And why?
Fuzz AI Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I personally find smoking at night better than during the day. It probably has more to do with my state of mind than the actual conditions. I'm a night owl, so I'm more relaxed during the evenings. During the day, there's just too much activity around for me to relax and enjoy the cigar.
MrGlass Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Evenings for me. Same reasons as others - there are always things that need to be done during the day that will be pressing on my mind. By the evening, they're either finished, or I've decided to put them off until tomorrow. Regardless, I can sit down and relax (hopefully).
dicko Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I love cigars during the day. There's just something about relaxing while everyone else is running around or working! Even if I am studying myself I really enjoy it
Trimble Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Interesting question, I too have contemplated this before. Currently, due to having young children, I am forced to seize the opportunity anytime I can! On a weekend, it usually revolves around nap time, which is typically 2p to 4p. During the week however, its primary after they've been tucked in for the evening, which is customarily 8p. Consequently, my opportunities to smoke are presented during both the day and night. Personally, I enjoy both! The blessings that come with smoking during the busyness of the day and the calmness of the night are unique and enjoyable in their own way.
bolivr Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Mine's a vote for evenings as the cigar is often paired with a distilled beverage
dcse Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Definitely the evenings, after the kids have gone to sleep. Once or twice a year after lunch if work allows, and occasionally during daytime in the weekends whenever the rest of the familiy is away. Cigars go so well with whisky and port, another argument for enjoying the cigars in the evening.
Ellery Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 My most favorite time to smoke a cigar is early morning (when its nice outside) between 7a-830a with a cup of coffee. Everyone in the house is still sleeping, don't have to deal with my wife. kids, etc.

OZCUBAN Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Have done both but i think i just enjoy them more at night (it's a relaxation thing ) Cheers Oz

Colt45 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Almost always during the day. A good part of that is that I work nights, but even on weekends it's pretty much always during the day.
Mel Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Time of day is not as important as the level of activities. I like to smoke when there is no time pressure for the "next thing to do". Because of that the evenings work best for me. Can't smoke to late into the night as that affects my sleep. I do like the morning on weekend before the others get me involved in their lives. The sun is Ok if the day is cool and the warmth is desired but shade is much better. I never can enjoy a cigar very well in the sun at the pool on a hot summer day. Can't se the flame on the lighter either.LOL
Colt45 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Can't se the flame on the lighter either.LOL Yeah I wished you'd told me that before I finally got a blazer
LeafLover Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 In the evenning. It allows me to wind down from the rat race during the day. Let's me reflect on the day that has just passed as well as plan for the next day. It's therapeutic for me during the week. During the weekend, it's for pure enjoyment.
groza Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I enjoy my cigars the most when I smoke them in the evening or really late afternoon. Although it's easier to achieve a uniform burn when lighting up (something I'm particularly concerned about), it seems that the darkness of the night also takes away some of the visual enjoyment of smoking.
jacksfull Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I lean more toward evenings, but I do like both. My cigar selection is different for each, tending toward smaller and/or lighter for daytime (not exactly a revelation, eh?). I also tend toward less expensive cigars in the daytime, as I'm usually at my desk with other things occupying my mind... don't want to blow my budget on smokes that I'm not able to focus on.
thechenman Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Honestly...my schedule like most other people's, is tightly packed, so I generally will enjoy a cigar whenever I get the chance to. The exception is that I don't smoke in the morning. Just don't enjoy it then. Don't know why. About noon is the earliest I have smoke a cigar and enjoyed it. That said, I much prefer smoking at night than during the day. This is mostly due to the fact that I like to smoke a cigar to relax and wind down my day. Therefore, I find it more enjoyable and theraputic when I smoke at night.

That last comment is understated well. Try closing your eyes and smoking blind. I have and did not enjoy the cigar. I do need enough light to see the smoke. Colt I have nearly taken the mustache off several times. I almost put a lit torch up tp my ear to see if the gas was coming out.
Davin Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Usually smoke in the evening or at night. When i get to smoke in the daytime I feel like its a treat as I normally dont have that kind of time in daylight hours. However, I really enjoy an early, early morning (5 or 6 am) smoke outside on a calm sunny morning once in a blue moon.
samb Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Interesting question. I love smoking just a little before lunch, with the warm morning sun warming me inside and out. But mornings like that are rare where I live, and my work schedule finds me usually waking up too late to get that pleasure. I usually smoke late nights.
MIKA27 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Mine's a vote for evenings as the cigar is often paired with a distilled beverage Ditto!
Smooth Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Night. BUT... I love a good afternoon smoke or a nice long skinny smoke with a beautiful long tapas style brunch, but the opportunity for such a moment is rare sadly... I smoke most of my cigars at night, after midnight and with a alcoholic beverage in hand. Then a nice shower and off to bed feeling all is good in the world.
