Why would our planet be the only planet to have living things? It just doesn't make sense. If we put a man on the moon and a rover on Mars why can't another planet from another galaxy have living beings that are more advanced?

I'm too rational to beleive, BUT, have had two experiences in my life that are well beyond being explained or

chalked up as coincidence, so as much much as I hate to admit it - something weird is going on!

(no Gary - I was NOT impregnated by aliens.) :cigar:

What happened if you dont mind telling?

The biggest one was I had an intense dream while on holiday,

seeing the dead body of a family friend, who i had not thought about for years.

I woke really disturbed by the whole thing, which is saying alot as dreams rarely stick in my head or mean much.

I was in the south of France at the time, called home to Pennsylvania the next day and was told this person had passed away.

I was a wreck for a week. There is no explanation for this sort of thing but it was all very real.

It was emotionally draining wondering how I knew.

My parents were also in Europe at the time,

this person was one of my mothers best friends.

When I broke the news about her friend, she inquired how i found out...

and what DO you tell your mom?

"oh, i just dreamed it!"

to this day it weirds me out, how there can be a connection - that shouldnt even be there - half way around the world?

anyway, it makes you wonder. if someone can explain it to me, i'll be happy to accept.

I believe in God.

Also, my wife talks dirty to me every few years. Who could possible begin to explain that?

In addition, who hasn't "felt" someone else staring at them? I mean, there's a lot of little sayings to express the idea that people can sometimes tell when someone else is looking at them. Do you ever look at someone standing by the road as you drive by and they look up and meet your stare? It's creepy.

My wife and I discover we're thinking the same thing at the same time frequently, and I'm not talking once a week on hump-night.

Nobody knows why salmon will eat herring after they come in from the salt. They're supposed to be done eating. It's inexplicable.

I've known people who've seen some pretty scary stuff at seances.

I believe unbelievers need to embrace Occam's Razor.

Strange...you story actually gave me the chills.

Animals are more "pure" for lack of a better word, they are not held back by the human frailties of regret, revenge, anger, shame, hate etc. and when they pass on (ie. die) they have no reason to remain behind in spirit form, except maybe to briefly say "goodbye" to it's master if you will and then move on.

Well said Padrino.

I have heard some stories of people who have had pets that have passed on and then report strange occurrences where one person in particular who had a cat, felt during the nights light footsteps on top of her quilt as if her cat were walking on top of it.

This stuff is all very true. My father passed away two years ago, and once in a while ill have a dream about him, the very next morning when i talk to my sister she also tells me she had a dream about dad last night. Its weird and hard to explain but there has to be reality to this. The same thing goes for when you say something that someone else is thinking, or someone says something what you are thinking about. What is this called ESP? Its like were reading someone else thoughts without even knowing it. Strange, i think im going to go smoke lol

All these "paranormal" incidents can be explained, but only after interviewing the people involved. There are too many variables

Why would you assume that those paintings were inspired by actual events? People have powerful imaginations, it's one of the reasons we have been so successful as a species. As stalebread mentions, when we look at ancient art, our interpretation of it is influenced by the society/culture which we live in. It could have a completely different meaning in the cultural context in which it was created.

Why would one not assume or at least be left with an open mind to the possibility when there is more than enough evidence world wide depicting strange crafts in the sky (For thousands of years). :potty:

As a society today, as soon as a 'True event' occurrs what do we do? We write books or make movies about it. The same can be said for the past centuries where the only medium they had were painitings, tapestries, crockery, gold etc in which to tell their stories.

What else could a UFO clearly painted and not have any significance with the remainder of that painting mean?

Again, this is my opinion, belief and you are more than entitled to your own.

Some examples:

lolladoffplate.jpg

7,000 B.C. - The Lolladoff plate, discovered in Nepal, appears to show a hovering disk-shaped object in the center and a small being, resembling an alien beside it.

ancientastronauts.jpg

This cave painting is c.10,000 BC and is from Val Camonica, Italy.

It appears to depict two beings in protective suits holding strange implements.

ufokiev.jpg

Strange suited figure found in Kiev. It dates to ca. 4,000 BC.

ufoindians.jpg

Petroglyphs dating back thousands of years ago by ancient Indians in the American Southwest. According to Indian folklore, two objects collided high in the sky and one crash-landed in the region of Death Valley. Some men arrived (presumably in another ship) and spent some time repairing the damaged craft and were observed by the local Indians. The two images below may possibly depict the ship (left) used by the men who came to repair the damaged craft. In comparing the two images, the one on the right seems to depict structural damage around the edges and the bottom. Could it be the one that allegedly crashed? The images are stills taken from an old TV series entitled "In search of..." hosted by Leonard Nimoy.

ufo6000.jpg

6000 BC from Tassili, Sahara Desert, North Africa.

ufotanzia1.jpgufotanzia2.jpg

Two cave paintings from Tanzania. Both are estimated to be up to 29,000 years old. The one on the left is located in Itolo and depicts several disc shaped objects. The other painting is from Kolo shows four entities surrounding a woman. Notice also the entity looking down from inside some sort of box or object.

wandjina3.jpgwandjina1.jpg

Wandjina petroglyphs from Kimberley, Australia.

About 5,000 years old and may represent alien beings.

ufosummer.jpg

This is a tapestry called Summer's Triumph It was created in Bruges in 1538 and presently resides at the Bayerisches National Museum. You can clearly see several disc shaped objects in the top of the tapestry.

ufocoinbig.jpg

In France there was a coin minted in 1680 that shows a hovering disc shaped UFO with what appears to be port holes or lights around the outer rim.

ufoclock.jpg

Renaissance illustration of a UFO sighting in Rome detailed

in a book by Roman historian Julio Obsequens. "Prodigiorum Liber"

ufowheelsgermany.jpg

This picture shows a UFO sighting over Hamburg, Germany

The objects were described as 'two glowing wheels' -

November 4, 1697 - Wheels - Spoked Wheels.

ufojesus2.jpg

A disk shaped object is shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus - Fitzwilliam Musuem, Cambridge, England - Painted in 1710 by Flemish artist Aert De Gelder. It depicts a classic, hovering, silvery, saucer shaped UFO shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus. What could have inspired the artist to combine these two subjects?

crucifixion1350.jpg

Frescos throughout Europe which reveal the appearance of space ships in the skies including this painting of 'The Crucifixion' - painted in 1350. It seems to depict a small human looking man looking over his shoulder - at another UFO as if in pursuit - as he flies across the sky in what is clearly a space ship. The leading craft is decorated with two twinkling stars, one reminiscent of national insignia on modern aircraft. This painting hangs above the altar at the Visoki Decani Monestary in Kosovo, Yugoslavia.

ufochase2.jpgufocase1350.jpg

ufomadonna.jpgmaryufoclose.jpg

A fourteenth century fresco of the Madonna and Child depict on the top right side the image of a UFO hovering in the distance. A blow up of this fresco reveals tremendous details about this UFO including port holes. It seems to indicate a religious involvement between UFO's and the appearance of the Christ Child.

I can go on and on and regardless of the above and my beliefs, they are my own. I am merely going by historical and present accounts.

In light of the size of this universe which is expanding rapidly with what astronomers are finding daily, how can there be no other life? If the universe was small and only contained the planets we have in our solar system, I could understand your point but there is an expansive universe out there....

Then again.... Perhaps these are not from the far reaches of space but another dimension?

yes, to the ghosts: my wife and I lived in a haunted mansion in New England. My wife saw a older Victorian dressed woman in our bedroom. I saw shadows several times indoors out of the corner of my eye where there couldnt possibly be any. We both experienced coldness breezing past us, in otherwise warm rooms and hallway. Furniture was found out of place and doors ajar, when we came home after being away for a day. Ocassionally, woken up by loud noises (I'm talking ear ringing noises).

Never experienced this anywhere else in my life. And we've lived in a lot of different places.

Topics like these all boil down to one simple thing, personal experience.

People that have experienced something magnificently unexplainable, frightening, and those that haven't. One side will always try and educate the other out of their heresy.

To paraphrase Hamlet - "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

For all of you who have an interest in the paranormal, I currently listen to a podcast via iTunes that is simply amazing and covers many differing subjects of the paranormal. Unlike many podcasts of the same ilk, this one does not 'press onto you' their beliefs but rather the host 'Jim Harold' interviews guests that include well known authors, scientists, experts in varying fields to explain various questions on the varied topics at hand.

In the end, it is your own decision weather you believe or not...

Each show covered also have listed on his web page links to the authors books, shows etc

I highly recommend you check out:

Paranormal podcast

By heading over to his web site, he also has links to his two other great podcasts 'Campfire" which is purely people like yourself and I discussing ones experiences and lastly his new Video podcast "The paranormal report" which is a weekly show on random paranormal activites etc.

All in all, three great shows but my favourite is the Paranormal podcast and the Video Paranormal report. :)

Many have tried but none have succeeded:

Hah, nice. This was in Spokane WA, near a racetrack where range hands/farm types would come in on the weekends. The speculation was that a couple of folks were killed in the house - so the local lore went.

Thanks Prof. I'm glad someone put this up.

Here's a podcast that is not as well funded as the JREF but he debunks lots of popularly held but unsubstantiated beliefs.

There is also the Center For Inquiry. (http://www.centerforinquiry.net/).

Although they deal some with paranormal stuff, they look critically at other issues including unproven, untested, unsubstantiated medical procedures and products.

Mika, I can't speak to all of the art/images that you presented above as evidence of UFOs but the early Christian and Byzantine painting and tapestries have been debunked regarding their alleged "UFO" images time-and-time again. What some people choose to see as space men in space ships, are (and this is consistent with the iconography of the time) anthropomorphic representations of the sun and moon. Similar images, often in the same places in the composition are seen in much of the work from that period, sometimes with faces with more or less detail, sometimes with "rays" emanating from them, sometimes not. I can understand why some people see spaceships but as far as I can tell it's wishful thinking.

This may be a little way out there but seeing we have such a large family here at FOH from various walks of life and creeds, I just wished to know if anyone here believes in the Paranormal?

may i say in answer to this, ABSOLUTELY NOT, never, no, forget it, not possible. but...

three weird things.

if i am watching tv or something and someone is about to say a number for whatever reason, may be 60-70% of the time, i'll say the number before they do. but only if i'm not thinking about it. certainly some times it must be obvious and the brain just fills it in but not that often. but if i try to do it, forget it. no chance. wish it were the other way as i could do with a party trick.

back in the days when i'd listen to a radio, especially in the car, i'd occasionally change channels to listen to a song. not looking through a heap of channels but just turning straight to a different channel to hear that specific song. no idea how i knew it would be on. didn't happen often at all but enough to be curious (and when it happened, the song was always on - different songs, not any one specific song). in fact, i'd never realised i did it until one day i went to change the channel on the car radio and a mate asked what was i doing. i said i wanted to listen to 'xyz - no idea what song it was'. and changed the station. sure enough, it was on. he asked how did i know it was on? i had no answer but it gave me a shock. never realised i was doing it till then and when this happened, i realised i'd be doing it, infrquently but enough, for several years.

never listen to the radio these days so no idea if it would still happen. it was infrequent but often enough to be a bit spooky.

finally, when in my younger teens, i'd occasionally wake and see a shimmering figure. it was human shaped but never all there. sometimes in the garden outside or in a tree outside the bedroom, sometimes in my doorway and as time went on, it would occasionally stand near the bed and sometimes even be leaning over. just silvery shimmering in the shape of a human but not a discernible face or anything. over several years into late teens/very early 20's, it happened may be 8 to 10 times so it was infrequent. at no stage did i ever have the slightest feeling it meant any harm at all. but i always knew that the moment i told anyone about it, that i would never see it again. i had no doubt of that. then away camping with friends once in early 20's and had had a few drinks and we were all sharing such stories and even though i knew i shouldn't, i told the group about this. the instant i did i knew i'd never see it again. and i never have.

and if any of you had told me that story, i'd think it a complete load of crap.

but otherwise, absolutely not.
