Kangaroo495 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 There's been a change in the Cuban Cigar imprt system in Russia recently, as a consequesnce, the local shops are running low on stock, forcing me to "expand my horizons" a little bit when choosing what to smoke. Picked this up despite the fact that it got a 5.9 on the www.cigars-review.org website. Everything about it looked and felt good. Construction, colour, draw and firmness. Everything was in place for a decent smoke. First two thirds produced volumes of flavour. Mostly earth, leather and tobacco. Body was medium. The cigar even produced 3 or 4 of those "epiphany moments", when you take a drag, and it's so damn delicious that you shut out the outside world and concentrate entirely on the taste and aroma of the cigar - thereby achieving an ultimately relaxing state (cigar Nirvana?) Anyway, the final third got real sweet and more peppery - an interesting development. Perhaps I was expecting less? Maybe I was lucky with the quality? But even if 65 - 75% of Quintero stock are like this - then WHY would I spend my money on Cohiba Behikes (or anything else for that matter!)? The cigar costs pennies, and delievered a smoking experience vastly greater than that of the Cohiba Magicos which I smoked on Saturday. I think I can objectively say that it was a very fine smoke. Score - 93/100
Buch0 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I love when I see enjoyment streaming from a forgotten brand. I would be confident in saying not many people have Quintero in their daily smokes but to hear a review like this inspires hope. Honestly I know little about this cigar but if I ever cross one I will not pass the opportunity up to smoke it after hearing this, cheers!
cigarros Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Roger! Quintero line the most underestimated. But I know great english proverb - Every Jack has his Jill!
thechenman Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Thanks for sharing Kanga...another C&C I'd be interested in trying.
samb Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Cool, thanks for the review. May try to hunt this one down for next purchase.
LeafLover Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks for the review. Sorry to hear about your cigar shortage in your neck of the woods.
Kangaroo495 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Gents, I went and bought another single last night, just to check... It was actually only the second time in my life I'd smoked the same cigar two days in a row! And the Quintero was just as good as yesterday! (If not a little bit better/more complex). You guys have got to put down your Partagas, Bolivar, Cohiba (Buch - your Diplos), and pick up one of these. They're sooooo cheap and so good. Get in soon though, coz I'm gonna start buying boxes from Czar's!
MontrealRon Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hey, Kanga - any chance that you can check out the box code? Quintero Brevas have long been a favorite of mine, especially with a few years aging. They are the same size as the Nacionales, only packaged in a foil bundle like R&J Cazadores. Now you've got me going. I'll have to get some Nacionales, and see how similar/different they may be. PS - Have you taken a look at the new "Cheap & Cheerful" forum?

I have already had a look around for some boxes so will let you know if mine match up to yours!
nonameno Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hello Kanga, You have been smoking some very interesting 'off the radar' smoking treasures. You have certainly piqued my curiosity with this small marque. I think it is very interesting to see what the other makers are rolling for cigars. Thank you, Curtiss
Martindelmundo Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Great review. I used to smoke these a lot but it has been about two or three years. I think I'll pick up a few more this week. beats smoking the $20 stick I think here they cost about $6.
Tony12 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I personally like this brand for price point and flavor. It was the first CC I smoked. It was great. I have had few that have been not so great, but most have been really enjoyable.
thechenman Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 The Quintero marca can certainly be touch and go. However, of the price, I agree that it offers decent value. Personally, I prefer the Panatela over the Nacional though.
CUBANO Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I've smoked about 3 or 4 boxes of this marque in the past, and its definitely an under rated marque.
