LeafLover Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Received my box of Dip 4 ABR 08 from Czar (Thanks Lisa). Here is my review (just the basics): Color: Espresso Brown Mouth feel: Perfect. My favorite vitola along with the CG, not too cumbersome. Creamy smoke with a bit of a spice, telling me that this habano is filled with quality tobacco. Draw is in between effortless and slight resistance. Burn: No need for touch-ups here. 1/3rd: Mild tobacco flavor with slight sweetness. Mild body. 2/3rd: Toasty tobacco flavor starts to evolve and the sweet honey flavor thickens. Definitely feeling the habano starting to evolve. Medium body. 3/3rd: The toasty tobacco flavor and honey flavors reaches it's heighth. Medium body. Clean finish. The burn is a complete non-issue, and the pure enjoyment is fantastic. Burning my fingers. Living well without breaking the bank with these. One of those cigars that make you feel......that hit the spot. And to think that this habano only left the mail courier's hand 4 hours ago. I can only imagine what she'll be like with some age. No pictures because did not want to ruin the moment.
shrink Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 It's good to hear that the '08 Diplomaticos are smoking well young. I can attest that the '06s are awfully good right now.
Buch0 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 You couldn't of made a better choice of purchase mate, any Diplo are just about untouchable IMO. Great construction, exceptional pricing, little need for any tiresome ageing and best of all an abundance of chocolate/coffee/varnished cedar throughout the line. Probably the most underrated cigar out there but whos complaining, more for us Cheers for the review!
ucla695 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 So are these on the deleted list? It's the lone survivor.
thechenman Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 It's the lone survivor. Actually, the Diplo No. 4 is on the deleted list. It is the Diplo No. 2 that is the lone survivor of this marca. However, the Diplo No. 2 is a great cigar in it's own right.
mkz Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I can attest that the '06s are awfully good right now. Oh, Yes!! Thanks for the review of this classic cigar!
android Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I have picked up an HQ 2008 box from the Czar and they are very good...I have recently just picked up two boxes from 2001 and have a little more time to wait before trying one.
stargazer14 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 i would have thought I wrote that review - spot on. These really are a very good, not too expensive smoke. I am really liking them right now.
Tampa1257 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Nice review of the Diplomaticos No.4. The sweet Paprika flavors are what differs this line from say Montecristo. The Dip's are smooth, well balanced, creamy with just enough spice to delight the palate.
dicko Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Actually, the Diplo No. 4 is on the deleted list. It is the Diplo No. 2 that is the lone survivor of this marca. However, the Diplo No. 2 is a great cigar in it's own right. pulled the trigger on a box so i can try. better to have loved and lost..
dicko Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Dip 4 ENE 09 Please allow me to attach this to your great review mate. My box just arrived so ripped one out. great constrcution, box press which I quiet like. pre - cherry. rich tobacco. ground coffee beans init- spice through nose. cappacino. med full. 1st third - settled into medium body. milk coffee and toasted tobacco core. slight sweetness. not so much honey as straight sugar. LeafLover is spot on this has a very clean finish! 2nd third - ugly ash and burn a bit off, but plumes of smoke and the draw is perfect so who cares... That sugar has turned to a more cedary aspect adding some wood to the equation. good white pepper. the slightest gasoline taste coming in but not to any detrimental level. a bit less coffee but the “roasty, toasty” tobacco as Smithy would say is still in force. med-full. 3rd third - still good roast tobacco flavours. cedar and coffee mostly gone. more of a darker, earthy flavour profile. slighlty tannic. not as good as first 2/3 This petit corona has been talked up by many members here, and for good reason! good size, good price, and good flavours with a decent level of complexity. 89/100 Cheers, Dicko
bob25 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Are this discontinued? I really want to get a box and try them but couldn't find a box on the site. All the reviews I read were positive.
dicko Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Are this discontinued?I really want to get a box and try them but couldn't find a box on the site. All the reviews I read were positive. I bought this box recently. they are still around but get in quick.
thechenman Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yes...the Dip 4 is being discontinued, but are still around. Not to hard to find as yet, and Czar does get them in still from time to time.
