Ken Gargett Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, Melbourne scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago. Not to be outdone by the Victorians, in the weeks that followed, a Sydney archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story published in the Sydney Morning Herald read: "New South Wales archaeologists, finding traces of 130-year-old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network 30 years earlier than the Victorians". One week later, the Courier Mail in Brisbane, Queensland, reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Beenleigh, Queensland, John Brown, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. John has therefore concluded that 130 years ago, Queensland had already gone wireless." Just makes you proud to be a Queenslander
olotti Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 As a guy from the states who's played hickey his whole life I love seein those brawls. I can relate. I may have to look into this Aussie football. It looks intense.

Ken Gargett Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Wow, interesting stuff i thoroughly enjoyed that. goosebumps for the miracle try.
Guest rob Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I tried to find a clip with Billy Moore yelling "Queenslander! Queenslander!"... but my search skills failed me. Maybe I'm just sentimental... but those matches from the 80's and 90's are the pinnacle of Rugby League in my opinion. just brilliant.

Ken Gargett Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 outstanding, love end-to-end trys. How's the Qld league team doing? They looker better than the Reds the reds are currently not worthy of cleaning the league boys' toilet bowl after a big night on the curry. they are dire. from the best provincial side in the world beating full strength sides from england, the all blacks etc, they are now a complete joke. how it hurts. the league team went on to win that fourth series - no other state of origin side has done that. and a good chance for a fifth though it will be tough. hodges is out for the series already though lote T will come back. lockyer undecided. rob and i differ on his value to the team - i remain a fan - though he suffers from injuries. if inglis, slater, thurston, izzie etc fit, it is one of the greatest backlines ever to walk on a field. a big loss will be dallas johnson in the forwards. small but worked his bum off every game. our forwards will need a massive series but it could see the emergence of dave taylor as a potential great front rower. he is about 19, legs like jonah, torso like tyson, very fast over reasonable distances, hands like mark waugh but does make too many mistakes as yet and his head can sometimes be in places elsewhere. he gets that together and look out! will be a great series this year.
