Bartolomeo Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 -One huge vein dissects this Maduro colored cigar, not the prettiest -Short little MoFo of a cigar, real turn off for me is this size but I want to test the entire Siglo line -Pre-draw is sweet tobacco -Little bit smaller than the RA Small Club Corona but both serve the same purpose……short, fairly quick smoke -Initial puffs are sweet leather, tannins and woodsy and it stays that way the entire 1/3 -So far, no typical Cohiba flavors of grass/vanilla/citrus or cream -Aftertaste is like a sweet, spicy log -2/3 has a touch more sweetness but still that woody/spicy dry flavor, not bad but nothing special, some nuts as well -I can’t expect too much complexity with a cigar this size -Ash is Grey and flaky, draw is perfect, construction is great just sort of an ugly stick but I don’t mind -Last 1/3 involves some cedar, white pepper, nutmeg and slight hint of Cinnamon -Cigar was a solid Medium the entire smoke, reminded me of an herbal cigar sort of -I enjoyed the RASCC a little bit better b/c of the flavors and its about $40 cheaper a box -I am glad I tried and thus completes my testing of the entire Siglo family -8.4/10……Worth trying a couple of singles but not box worthy for me Bart
PigFish Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Siglo 1's can be the bomb when on. There are a bunch of perlas (sub-PC) sizes and cigars that I enjoy. Many times I choose them first based on cost and what I can get a bargain on. They include Party shorts, El P's, Monte & D-5's, Deputes, Lunch Clubs... like all cigars are sometimes hit and miss. With S-1's being so pricey for the format I stick with equally satisfying and lesser expensive makes. Currently the '08 Monte 5's are really hard to beat. I smoked one with the mares this morning. My tongue is still tingling!!! Thanks for the review amigo. - Piggy
mbrody Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Thanks for the review Bart. I agree with Piggy. When on, they are fantastic short smokes that I have burned my fingers and lips on. One of my faves. However, if the box is off, they are as you described Bart. I am optimistic that the 08 MEL boxes will be on. Unfortunately, I am leaving them alone as I still have 07 boxes to work through.
Aficionado Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Just wondering whether to buy a box, this topic helped me make the decision. Thanks for the review.
android Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I had one today that was very good TEB SEP 07. Thanks for the review.
PADDYWHACK121272 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Had first from a MEL NOV 08 box recently - didn't have much time to settle in the humidor before I smoked it but was a very satisfying smoke none the less with a sweet vanilla core - looking forward to the rest when they settle a bit - suspect they will only get better.....
stargazer14 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Don't miss out on the Petit Punch while you are looking at this range. I still have most all of my Sig I's because I keep going for the Petits! The Sigs just didnt do it for me.
mbrody Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Piggy commented about the 08 Monte 5. I just sparked my first and it has been a great smoke. The Petit Punch is also another great 1/2 corona. When they are on, they are really unique and flavorfull.
