  1. PSP MAG56 from our host. It's going to be a struggle waiting 30 days before I try one!
  2. Let them all rest for at least 30 days, then take notes as you smoke them, this will give you thoughts to review when looking at future 24:24 sales. My faves (in order) from this line up: Mag46, CORO, Epi #1, BBF. For me, the Mag46 is on average better than the CORO, but the better COROs are far better than the best Mag46. Enjoy!
  3. For me, nobody tops WC Fields for quotes: "Whilst traveling, we lost our corkscrew. Had to live on food and water for several days." On his aversion to drinking water: "Never touch the stuff—very unhealthy. Fish f*ck in it." "If you put a bucket of beer in front of a pig it will grunt and walk away…and so should you…or would you rather be a duck?" "Women are like elephants to me. I like to look at them, but I wouldn't want to own one."
  4. Just received mine back in July, so I've only had the one (after about a month of rest) from this box, but all reviews I've seen say they settle into a creamier profile with some age. This is my first box of the Du Prince, so I can only report from what I've heard from others. However, I did just sample an Epi 1 from an Oct 14 box tonight, and those are certainly coming along well!
  5. Hmmm, posting a review from one sample, of which you only smoked 2/3? Time to come clean.... You are a staff writer at Cigar Afficianado, right? JK... I've got a box of Du Prince Nov 15 in my stash, and my results have been similar. After my first sample I opted to give them a good long rest to let the spice calm down a bit. I'll be sampling them every 6 months or so. Enjoy the slippery slope of CC addiction!
  6. Aged Mag 50's from a recent 24:24.... Great looking wrappers on these!
  7. I too have found gin to be perfect hot weather, with greyhounds (salty dog without the salted rim) and G&Ts being my standard gin cocktails. For greyhounds (my recipe: fresh squeezed pink grapefruit juice and gin with some Peychuad's Bitters) I use Sapphire. For G&T, I use Hendrick's with seltzer water and Jack Rudy tonic syrup (for a pre-mixed tonic, Fever Tree is good, but the Jack Rudy stuff is my fav). I'll have to try some of the others suggested in this thread, thanks for the recommendations!
  8. While away for the weekend I picked up a couple of malts unavailable in OH/KY: The Talisker is available in OH/KY, but it was on sale for $57, so I had to restock. So far, I've only sampled the Tomatin, and I'm very impressed! It was just $50 and has replaced the Quinta Ruben as my new favorite port finished malt. I'm no expert taster, but I find the Tomatin to be a light fruity flavor with cinnamon and a bit of woody (cedar'ish?) flavor, but still has a nice bit of burn (for me, the burn is perfect to offset the sweetness).
  9. Mostly CCs for me now, but I still have some boxes of NCs around, mostly for sharing out at gatherings of non-cigar smokers (I won't be too upset seeing a NC tossed after the first inch). I always smoke what I'm giving away, too, so I only keep NCs I'd be willing to smoke: Padron 2000/6000, Surrogates, L'atelier, My Father, etc...
  10. Mine, like my avatar comes from the fins of the favorite car I've ever owned... '59 Caddy in baby blue. One day I'll have another! (family is more important, prompting the sale back when first married)
  11. Lucky enough to score a 09 50 cab of Mag 50 from a recent 24:24, thanks, Prez! (Crap bunch is my doing, as I had to reassemble the cab... Kinda like getting toothpaste back in the tube). Now it's time for some expert level Tetris to fit these guys in the coolidor!
  12. Monte #2 from a recent 24:24. Smell off these is fantastic, tons of chocolate.
  13. Those are the same two Xikar models I own, too. I didn't recommend the Axia, due to the small fuel tank (works great, and I love the flat'ish flame it puts out, but refilling it all the time annoys me). I had a seal fail (adjuster popped off) on my Turrim right after I got it, but Xikar fixed it and I've had no other issues. What issues have you had with yours?
  14. Not exactly a pocket lighter, but I've been very happy with the new Xikar Turrim. It's a tabletop torch, but round and cigar sized, so you just slip it into your cigar case. When I'm at home, I normally use the FoH torch (can't be beat for the price!) and save the Xikar for when I'm having a cigar out someplace (Cuts down on scratches to the Xikar).
  15. Thankfully one of the few nights I jumped on the 24:24 on time... They sold out quick!
  16. RA Short Perfectos from a recent 24:24.. . Can't wait to dig in!:
  17. Sir Winston Esplendidos Siglo VI CoRo LGC LCDH Piramides/Robusto humidor (a guy can dream, right?)
  18. Upload a photo, if you can... Sounds like you may be seeing a rain spot on the leaf, as mold is more often white (can be many colors, but white is 99% or more for cigar mold).
  19. HP HDM Du Prince from a recent 24:24:
  20. Great review! Couldn't agree more about the Craigellachie 13 Year, it's a great dram! As for the EE, I've smoked several recent boxes, and can't say I've ever had a taste of anything like chocolate in any of mine, but I also note yours looks to have a bit more red to the wrapper than mine have had, so perhaps that contributes.
  21. I picked up the non-Committee release: I'm glad I gave it a try, but for actual value I'd rather have two bottles of Uigeadail for the same $. The Dark Cove is good, but for a sherry Adbeg Uigeadail is just better (those with a more discerning palate may get more from it, but for me Dark Cove has the same sherry/peat/iodine favors as Uigeadail, but less of them). I'm no malt expert, but I know what I enjoy and I've no plans to purchase a second bottle of the Dark Cove (unless a Committee release found its way to me... That I'd love to try!).
  22. More Trinidad Vigia from the recent 24:24.... Prez was stretching to call these "clearance," I'd call them HQ any day! The mushroom/truffle smell from opening two fresh boxes at once is out of this world!
  23. For me, Makita and Milwaukee are the best value/quality blend available for larger tools. However, I absolutely love my tiny palm size driver from Bosch, wouldn't trade it for any other small driver. I have the full Dewalt cordless kit, and am so disappointed in the battery lifespan, I thought the move from their old NiCad units to LIon would mean a longer lifespan, but no such luck, still need replacement every two years, even with just mild household use. Now, if you want to try "the best," give a Fein unit a try. Damn expensive, but it is just dripping quality!
  24. Cohiba PE and LGC Mdo4 (ETP ENE 16) from recent 24:24's
