Cigar Quality (PSP, HQ, etc)

Recommended Posts

So I'm new to these boards, but a long-time follower and buyer. I understand that PSP, HQ, PE and so on are referring to the quality of the cigars, I was just curious as to what they stand for exactly.

Thanks for any input!

PSP = Patchy Softcore Porn

HQ = Hilariously Quirky

PE = Positive Equality

Sorry, couldn't help myself, this question comes up about twice a week. There are many links and videos you can search for.

Here is the main one:

I think the asked another thing, not what the abbreviations mean.

From what i can understand from watching the video

PSP Cigars (The highest grade) all are uniform in shape and constructions, have a large amount of oils viasable on the wrappers and give off a strong aroma when the box is inspected. There are no blemishes on any of the wrappers and all the caps are perfect. Each cigar is check for uniform fill and correct amount of "give" in each cigar. These are the very best examples of a handmade product you can purchase. If you plan on buying cigars for long term aging and investment i believe these are the cigars you buy. The condition they arrive in ensures they will smoke beautifuly straight out of the box or in 15 years time

HQ Cigars (The Middle Grade) share similar charactersitics with the PSP boxes but less intensely so. The wrappers might not be as oily, they aroma may not be as strong.

PE Cigars (The Base Line Grade) are still quality cigars. The wrappers may not have as many oils as the HQ or they might not be as uniform in shape. Maybe the cap on a couple of them is a little rough, or one feels a little underfilled. A wrapper may have a slight blemish on it or is a little solid to the squeeze. The construction is still top notch and these are still very good looking cigars and are inspected for all the tell tale signs of poor construction (loose caps, firm point throughout the cigar) to ensure they will still smoke beautifully.

I like that Rob and his team take the time to do this. If you have a little bit of extra money in your pocket its a way of stacking the deck to ensure you a great box of cigars that can be smoked right away instead of taking pot luck and getting a box that still may require some down time. Any cigars that come through that do not meet Robs (very high) minimum standards are returned and not sold through him.

At least, thats what i understand it to mean.

Cheers!

PSP question Rob. Do you still sign the boxes of PSP's

No, he doesn't anymore (hasn't in quite some time). He just licks all the good cigars, for that added personal touch.

I'm still waiting for Dee to sign mine, or leave a big, bright-red lipstick kiss on one box, or something like that.

Wow this just got weird

LOL. It's a shipping thing. If you haven't received "interesting" item descriptions from Lisa before, then you don't know how much of a chuckle it can be sometimes. Especially if it's your wife going to pick up the mail.... biggrin.png

I had HQ surprise yesterday, received my HQ sampler and low and behold I already had 3 boxes of HQ bought blind in Cuba and Dubai. I knew they looked good, I would even say 2 are PSP from the difference between the HQ and mine. And there I thought all BRC's where supposed to look like that!

maybe we can sticky one of these threads? I know I would have loved to have something like this the first LFTH I participated in. Maybe add some some important email address like Di's and maybe some rules or educate on the proper way to reserve and email the item you want...

I will second this. A pinned topic with the info would be an asset for sure. I myself have asked the question before. And still look for the info from time to time.

Anyone else like to see a pinned topic?

To dig this topic up again, sort of....

How do you know if you have a box of PSP? I understand that an HQ box has one of those circle stickers on it but if Rob doesn't sign the boxes anymore, are they marked with a particular colour sticker?

I only ask because I just got my first ever box of PSP. A box of El Principe. It has a pink sticker on it I think.
