NY Times rates rums

I agree...it would have been much more helpful if they had listed all 20 rums in the tasting. However, as with cigars...it all comes down to what you like...so, the steal and modify an old adage...drink what you like, like what you drink.

Thanks for the link. Maybe this was why Zacapa didn't make the list:

"some of the aged rums we liked least were unfathomably sweet. "

They probably thought it was too sweet. I purchased a bottle of the Santa Teresa for a friend for Christmas. About a week later I tried it for the first time. Straight, no ice.

Whew! It was rough at first but the finish was great.

Yep. That would be my guess.

I sent Asimov an e-mail to see if he would reveal the entire list of 20. We'll see if I get a response.

I do like my rums sweet. Zacapa, Diplomtico Reserva Exclusiva & the sweetest treat of all, Legendario Elixir.

As a person who works in the liquor industry. The top sellers are El Dorado 15, Ron Zcapa 23 anos and Diplomatico

Interesting...thanks.

  • 2 years later...

Just discovered this thread. Thought the comments in the article re: aging rums were particularly interesting.

Have picked up a bottle of Bacardi 8 to see how it compares to the Mt *** xo (a 1 litre bottle of the former is roughly the same as a 700ml bottle of the latter)
