Ken Gargett Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Michael Jordan was seen smoking a cigar at the President's Cup in SF by some idiot politician. Link got a big mention in the weekend paper out here. how absurd. someone had 'spoken with him'. i really hope he ignores it.
Azksig Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Has Oz been hit with all the anti smoking laws that the US has been? The golf course was one of the last places here you could smoke a cigar. I hate to see what the next 5 years brings.
Colt45 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I've probably mentioned this before, but I'm looking to change careers, so I'm looking forward to the prohibition of tobacco - Cigar Runner......
SamuraiJack Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I've probably mentioned this before, but I'm looking to change careers, so I'm looking forward to the prohibition of tobacco -Cigar Runner...... I'd think twice about that, bro. I'm sure our gov't would gladly spend 800 thousand bagillion dollars a year combating the tobacco evil. So, you'd probably have a 15 ft fence in your way, and those are a nuisance.

jquest63 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 LOL! Was just in Washington DC for several days and smoked a cigar on the mall in front of police officers. I asked if it was ok to smoke before I lit up, thinking that the US capital may have anti public space smoking laws. The police looked at me oddly and said go ahead and smoke. At least there's still freedom in the US capital.
jfury76 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Unfortunately, most of our politicians are complete morons who will stop at nothing to get re-elected. Sad state of affairs here in the State these days.

And perhaps cigar runner or smuggler are a bit too crass - I'll be in the import / distribution business.

Cause Ken doesn't get out to often I will tell you about the golf courses in Queensland at least, please note I take no notice of the smoking laws on the courses and am yet to be kicked off. They vary which sucks cause you are never too sure what club has what rules until some idiot tells you. Of cause the rules have all been designed for cigarettes not cigars. Some clubs you can only smoke on the tees, others only odd holes, others only the front 9, others have specific areas around the course that you can smoke it. They all suck except for this one, you can only smoke off the fairway, I have a heap of friends who's golf game has deteriorated because they intentionally hit into the rough so they can smoke. You see a lot more guys walking down the sides rather than the middle of the fairways and they don't seem to mind being in the rough. So thats the Queensland rules, now its my shot, so I might just slice this one into the rough again.
dicko Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 So thats the Queensland rules, now its my shot, so I might just slice this one into the rough again. I wouldn't have to try!
Fuzz Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 not sure about golf courses. suspect that might be up to the individual club but no doubt if they are not, they will be. Currently it's still okay to light up on the public golf courses in Sydney. Not too sure about the private ones, though.

So Ken won't notice until they pass a law prohibiting smoking on personal patios The fairway law would be fine for me since I'm never in the damn things.
jgmiller829 Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 A couple weeks ago, I was at Mohegan Sun (casino in Connecticut) the same night MJ was inaugurated in the NBA hall of fame, and I was buying some absurdly casino-overpriced cigars. The cashier told me that MJ was in 5 minutes before me and bought three boxes of some Davidoffs for $1,250 EACH! I guess it was a celebration and he's richer than god but man, talk about overpaying...
thechenman Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Things are seriously getting out of hand when you can't even smoke in the wide open space of a golf course. I would forfeit any membership in a golf club that issued a ban on the golf course. Inside the clubhouse I can understand, but outside...give me a break!

I guess it was a celebration and he's richer than god but man, talk about overpaying... I read the article on Cigar Aficionado where at the very end, they made a comment that MJ could be fined $100.00 by the state should he ignore the rules. If MJ is spending $1,250 per box of Davidoffs, I am sure a lousy $100 bucks wont break the bank! Hell, I'd purposefully ignore the rules, light up a stogie with the $100 bill!!!
smk819 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 What is the fairway? It must be where the other guys play. At least on the crummy courses that I play on in Washington you can smoke anywhere. I get about 6 holes out of a Super Partagas, a cheap but perfect golf course cigar.
