Probably a big part of the marketing ploy aswell, to get people talking about Cohiba again.. Its indeed working :)

Very keen to get stuck into some of these!!

The insane think alike. I almost posted this same thought yesterday.

Hmmm...

1 overpriced Cohiba - $125

1 box of Diplo 4's - $125

Watching Habanotarians consternate over the decision - priceless!

Maybe there's some hope here. I just ran across this in James Suckling's blog:

I may be tempted if I could find them at the price Suckling got them for ($756)...$50 a stick...we'll see...

Figured I would put my two cents in. I would love to try this cigar but with the price being what it is, it is just of my reach or would just take a good chunk of my cigar budget. With that being said you buy what you can afford if you can't afford it then don't buy it. I would love to be driving a very expensive sports car instead I'm driving a $40,000 truck so you get my point.

Hey Prez would love to see y'all do a video review again of this cigar. Enjoy watching the other reviews so keep them coming!!!

Reading through this thread again, I realize that I know many people who would laugh at me for paying $10 - $15 - $20 for a cigar.

I guess it's all very relative.

Forget it, I was down when the prices were around 70 a stick. Now they are over 100, might as well buy a couple of boxes of cohibas.

I was too when I read Suckling's initial post.

But just this morning I took a look at his blog again and he had changed it to $ 840. Same text, different price.

Now it is back to $ 756.

Funny, isn't it?

And somewhere I read that the official price in Cuba (@ the Casas del Habano) was § 815.

Probably will have to figure out a way to get it a that rate.

By the way:

The Gran Reserva is quite nice and has aging potential, but never in this life it lives up to the 85 Euro ($ 127) I paid for it here in Berlin, Germany yesterday.

sorry for the picture quality, didn't have a better camera than my Iphone...

Thanks for the first hand info. Any possibility of you telling us a bit more, or posting a review?

No one would laugh at you Ross. (Ha...)

I mean who would laugh at you? (Ha...Ha) Ahhh.... hummm!

I wouldn't laugh at you Ross! (Blah.... Ha, ha, ha....!)

Ross, you know better. I think they blend a stupid compound into CC. I know I have tasted it more than once and with a friend sending me one of these new Mag 48's.... Well, lets see if it is in there! -Piggy

Of course I can do that. Didn't take any notes myself but the friend I smoked it with took some.

I will ask him about the details tonight.

We were pretty sure that it tasted somewhat light at the beginning and got stronger.

I almost nubbed it. ;-) So the last third wasn't too bad in terms of strength.

The draw was near perfection. Not too tight oder too lose.

But the burn was terrible as you might be able to see on the pics of my initial post.

Considering the flavors I will get back to you guys tomorrow.

All I remember is that it tasted like bread, carmel, coffee and hints of dark chocolate.

For my taste it still was showing quite some acidity considering the age of the tobacco.

Overall a tasteprofile that certainly was unlike any standard production cuban cigar; I am not sure if it reached the level of the tastprofile the cigars from the book collection (Monte Maravilla, Cohiba Sublimes Extra and Trindad Torre Iznaga) have shown to me. They were a notch better, I think.

The Cohiba's from the book are off the charts in flavor profile. Totally in-your-face on strength and flavor. That's why I'm having a hard time believing these are that more amazing to be 125/stick.

Then again, at 100 a stick, 1,500 a box it could be worth a shot.

I guess the problem is that 100/stick seemed unreasonably high, now people are angling in on 125/stick and it seems to have lost all reason.

Wow, no offense to you, but the burn on that particular stick looks horrendous.

Thanks for the notes - I look forward to hear more, and from others who try these as well.

No offense taken.

As you could have read in my second post I thought myself that the burn was terrible.

Are you implying it is the smoker's fault when a stick burns like that?

I contemplated that topic a lot and finally came to the conclusion that the burn mainly relies on the way the leaves are rolled.

How you light it or how you cut it doesn't influence the burn if it is a premium cigar like this one.

Back on the tasting: I didn't get to talk to my friend yesterday. But I remembered what I found very remarkable at the time of smoking.

The cigar stopped burning twice. Both times I relit it and the tasteprofile was unchanged. No harshness whatsoever. The first time I have experienced this phenomenon in a cigar. I don't know how this is possible. But it most certainly was something that made me think about buying more of those when I find a box where the price is the right one.... :lol3:

No, not at all. I blame the roller and the leaves when my burn tends to go haywire.

dont be so quick to blame the rollers or leaf... it may also have been stored a touch to damp.
