Australian & US dollar prices at Czars

Hi Guys, Prez.

Just wished to have some clarification as I am a little confused with the pricing on the web site.....

Looking at a box of Vegas Robaina UNICOS 25's, I see the US dollar price is at: $228.00 however next to it, it shows the same box at $611.04.

This is what confuses me as having used a currency converter, $228.00USD works out $261.80AUD (Not $611.04)

Perhaps I am missing something?

If anyone can please explain, that would be great.

Pretty close... our duties are high over here and also taxes... International clients don't have to pay our duties and taxes. If you look at the link Rob has supplied that should explain the rest

In canada its roughly 50$ for duty and 69% taxes

I hope nobody here reading this imagines I am trying to stir up any controversy, I guess I never really understood the whole AUD Taxes etc. It is a darn shame us Australian buyers suffer the worst seeing the taxes basically cover another box of stogies if one were to buy outside of Australia.

The current excise rate is $322.93 per Kg of tobacco, plus import duties, then a 10% GST (goods and services tax) is added to the total cost (cigars plus excise, duties, import delivery costs). They don't miss a single thing.

And.....if forgot to add.....the excise rate is automatically increased every 6 months, based on our consumer price index.

That my friend is true to some degree BUT not.

Here, yes, we have Medicare BUT should one NOT have private health cover, they get royally screwed by the TAX man come tax time as the medicare Levy is then increased. In some cases, you are charged over $1,000.00 extra for not having private health cover and that in turn also increases the following year. In the end.....We all pay one way or another.

I'd much rather the taxes for cigars not be so high as I already pay for private health cover having a family etc.

We also have a Luxury Car tax for any vehicle over $57K (though there a some exception to this rule, emergency vehicles, campervans, vehicles for the disabled, etc). The tax is approx 33% of the GST exclusive portion of the purchase price.

Theres also the alcopops tax. But even before the tax it was always much better value to grab a bottle of your favourite spirts and mix it yourself or better yet drink it on the rocks.

I completely agree!

I often used to purchase pre-mixed drinks when catching up with friends at a BBQ such as a 10 x pack of Jim Beam and Coke cans but since the AP Tax, It is far cheaper to buy the entire bottle and mix it yourself.... Problem tho with that is we often mix our drinks alot stronger!

But really, doesn't it stand to reason that many don't have insurance because they can't afford it? And then fine them on top of it?

The socialists here in the U.S. are pushing for something similar, and some states have already enacted some forms of this thuggery.

of then taxing health benefits as if it were income.

It's terrible however in the states from what I read and hear through various avenues such as news and radio where some people in the states have been involved in terrible car accidents but refuse to be treated or even worse, taken in an ambulance as they are afraid they will not be able to afford medical help.

That there is a worry and in some ways, will be a good change for the US (If it can be called that).
