Guest rob Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 The planets lined up in a configuration last week that forced my hand and meant I had to (yes, I had no choice) buy a box of the new Edicion Limitada Upmann Magnum 48. As firm as I had my heels stuck in about not buying and EL cigars this year... a perfect storm of events took place which resulted in a box arriving at my place last Friday afternoon. Basically: *I was looking for a short cigar that I could enjoy in ~ 1 hour * Czar had a day sale that discounted them to an appropriately fair price. * They are Upmann - one of my top 2 favourite brands. * Ayala and Ken reviewed it highly - and I generally agree with their assessment. When I opened the box, it was merely for inspection. I normally open, close and then age the cigars for a minimum of one month. Well, the aroma that crept out of this box twisted my arm so hard that I forced to sacrifice one to appease my appetite. The scent was so chocolate laden and sweet. So clean as refined. The construction, draw and burn on this was unreal. Absolutely first class. The palate, and the mouthfeel, of the smoke was so creamy and smooth - like a soft centered milk chocolate. The flavour was like the texture and very chocolate, cocoa dust and coffee cream. The smoke volume was full and the finish was long. I could go on and take up paragraphs explaining small nuances and tidbits about this cigar... but I'd be lying - as I didn't pay that much attention. I just sat back enjoyed it and the serenity it delivered. After it was over, I knew that even though an hour earlier I had promised my missus no more cigars this month... I was already planning to order more of these as soon as possible. I'm thinking 5 boxes ought to be enough. These are so good, and so convenient (time wise) that its hard to look past them. If they were regular production it would be an easy call. 92+
maalouly Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Reviews as such leaves me no choice but to buy a box.
Colt45 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Nice one Robbo. I can't wait to smoke a few - of yours!
thechenman Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Rob...thanks for the review. I'm still waiting on by box of Mag 48s to arrive in the states. Can't wait to break into the box.

mbrody Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Jeez, I can't hold out the 30 days on some singles...will have to try one tomorrow!
smll2 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Great review Rob...I've smoked a few and it's a great little cigar. The size is great when your on the move. I have one box on the way...and your making me think about another. Great review again. Tom
bunburyist Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Had one last night but agree, lots of cocoa powder to taste, quite rich. Almost zero spice for me. Why oh why isn't it longer? One issue was pretty poor construction, and the burn was all over the place. 88/100 for me.
Guest rob Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Interesting... the construction was near perfect for my box. Stellar even. I detected zero spice with mine. In fact, I would have enjoyed it less if there was any. It was the very lack of spice, and the presence of extreme smoothness which I enjoyed so much.
Ellery Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Thanks for the review. Ive been smoking the 46s and 50s and they are wonderful. I think Im going to have to pick up a box of the 48s
kjellfrick Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Tomorrow I'll have a box waiting for me when I get home and for once (who am I kidding?) I'll try one before I put them away to sleep. Great reviews, all.
