kcmontie Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Prez can you and the gang do a review of these, they really look nice thanks KC
aavkk Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Id rather Smithy focus on editing and posting the RACF review that was promised! The cigars do look nice though, the dress box however needs to go.
Ginseng Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Not feeling this years EL's at all. Same here. I'm ever so tired of big and fat, short and fat, or just plain fat. Wilkey
bunburyist Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Same here. I'm ever so tired of big and fat, short and fat, or just plain fat.Wilkey Defo agree. Obviously it must be what sells, but cutting down the fat editions to say half of the releases would be better I think. At least throw in a piramide or something if the gauges have to be thick. For the first time in a while I had a small cigar - Fonseca KDT - and was surprised at how pleasant and tasty it was, albeit mild. Finished it and felt good about the experience. I had one of these RyJs last night....so so. Stand alone probably an 85 for me. Perhaps others will enjoy it more, but it has to be tempered by the fact you're paying £20 for a cigar....at that price I want to be very impressed. 90+ is what I expect for that money. 54 gauge is ridiculous as well. Perhaps I'm being harsh, but the feeling of being ripped off leaves a much longer aftertaste.
tigger Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I'm saddened each time I get a reminder like this of what's happening to Habanos.
thechenman Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I think the Dukes look gorgeous. Agree that 54rg is a bit thick though. Maybe it is just me, but I like the way dress boxes make the cigars look. More vibrant and exciting. Though I like the cabinets for aging, and prefer the more rounded feel of cigars that come from cabinets.
PigFish Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Damn nice box! Those bands are fabulous too. I'll bet the box is big enough to be made into a purse to sell on Ebay! Nuts! -
kcmontie Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Well most of what i buy and smoke is in the 32-44 ring rauge (just ask Lisa) but i still think these cigars look good . Maybe it the photos JJ CHeers KC
Guest rob Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Same here. I'm ever so tired of big and fat, short and fat, or just plain fat.Wilkey This is going to be the first year that I dont buy any boxes of the EL releases. I think HSA chose the vitolas poorly. Also, it's not that my cigar budget has become smaller... it's just that I am redirecting my budget to 'bread and butter' cigars that I can enjoy everyday.
MIKA27 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I just finished one not 30 minutes ago and whilst it's not the greatest smoke I've had from RJ, it was still quite enjoyable if not a little spicy for my liking. I still much rather have a RJ Escudos Edicion Limitada 2007, a little more balanced and consistent, the draw for me was just a little firmer with the 2007 whereas the 2009 Duke was a little too easy.
Mr. Japan Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Tried all the EL of this year, and honestly they are not ready at all IMHO
bobsled Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I tend to like cigars in the 40-50 gauge the best. Not a fan of the really fat ones at all.......
