Ken Gargett Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Homage to do-it-yourselfers everywherelink aren't humans amazing. or sometimes really stupid. had a mate whose gear box stuffed up and he got it working by sticking a screwdriver in it so for years, he drove the car by way of a screwdriver.
ironpeddler Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I had a buddy that lost the hand crank to the passenger window of his old Ford Fairlane and stuck a Vise-Grip pliers on it. He never gave a **** how hard it was to open the window because he never had to use it...we did. When the radiator hose clamp broke one night, we couldn't open the window anymore....he used the Vise-Grip to hold the clamp back together. After he got a new hose clamp, he used it to hold up the muffler after the bracket rusted through. Handy things those Vise-Grips.
kilroy Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 When my Jeep's clutch rod broke I was able to slip a 5/8" spark plug socket down the upper part of the clutch rod. I slipped the lower part of the rod into the bottom. The weld barb from the break point caught in the socket and kept it in place. I gave the Jeep to my father who handed the socket to me about 9 months later. I've also used a pair of vice grips as my hot water knob in my shower.
