Origin : Cuba H. Upmann

Format : Hermosos No.4

Size : 127 mm / 5.0"

Ring : 48

I bought this cigar in July 2007 in Switzerland

Box Code AEP MAY 06

Appearance and Construction

The appearance is good.

The silky slight red-brown wrapper leaf that adorns this cigar is very devoid of real veins, spotting, or slight wear spot.

Very good construction up to a point, head the cigar is a beautiful triple cap, and at the foot,

no real issues of any sort of plugging or soft spots is visibly apparent.

With a rather solid, yet light feel, the construction quality of this particular cigar is very good.

Pre light:

Prior to lighting, the cigar gives pleasant smell off a heavy aroma of cedar

which cinnamon and sweet tobacco.

The pre-light draw is flawless,

nothing tight, nothing to loose.

The flavor of the cedar is now definitely more apparent.

1st third

When open a cigar punch.

Cigar lighting is easily one match.

The burn is starting out razor sharp, even with a slow and cold start,

lightly toasted tobacco became more pronounced, opened up and moved into a cedar flavor.

Diminishing in strength from the initial draws.

The flavor offered a refreshing sweetness tobacco in contrast to the earthiness of the toasted wood.

The first third was a calming smoke relaxing.

2nd third

Very nice. That’s what I was expecting.

The draw was tighter and a perfect burn, grew in intensity with heartier tobacco moving further in the foreground.

Nice effort in the flavor is mostly woody, deep and intense.

In the second third, cinnamon and sweet tobacco notes make their way in, pleasantly diversifying the bouquet.

Still diminished from its opening the cedar and creaminess formed a sweet punctuation to each draw.

The ash was good and the burn still correct .

Last third:

Large volumes of smoke poured from the final third.

The very prominent toasted tobacco remained consistent with sweet aroma.

The sweet tobacco and creamy texture albeit even more subdued than earlier continued to offer appropriate contrast.

I finished this cigar only when my fingers caught fire :rotfl: .

I highly recommend the H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1 to all :devil2: .

I agree! Nice review and great pics.

Wow I havent had any of these since early 2000's releases. The wrappers were very light and so was the taste. I have not had one in years.

I might take a look for these again.

well I am going to crack my box of MAR 08's tonight and wow am I now looking forward to it. If they are as good as some here say they are than I may have to go back to back. Thanks for the brilliant timing of this review.

Do these require as much aging as the other Upmann vitolas?

Lee, let me tell you the 08's are simply the best regular production cigar I have EVER tasted fresh. USE MAR 08 is the code and I have been chain smoking them since I cracked my box about 2 weeks ago. I have also smoked these from 98 and honestly prefer the 08's. Dont hesitate to grab a box or 3 of these. Whether or not they enter a sick period at some point will remain to be determined but if they do I'll have many more in storage and have had some amazing smoking experiences while they were fresh.
