gersonmorelli Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Rather than a full review of the Por Larrañaga Petit Corona, I'll post some of my thoughts on a recent experience after smoking one last saturday night. I haven't smoked one of these since I picked it up on 2007. The cigar had a perfect construction and offered just the right amount of resistance in the draw. Pre-light aroma was very earthy and good quality tobacco. The 1st third opened on a medium body with just a little on the medium/full body side. Just a little bit of white pepper through the nose in the first draws, I guess that's one major change I felt since I first smoked the PLPC two years ago. During the 2nd third, body settled on a medium range and I felt the mushroom flavor that I remember from my first experience. And as the 3rd third approached some saltiness and meatiness also showed up. Good to see that the bitterness that the cigar had on 2007 is disappearing. I found it to be a great cigar, although I've been expecting for the typical caramel profile of the PL to show up. No sign yet, at least for my untrained palate! Has anyone smoked one these lately?
PigFish Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I smoke about 3 of these a week. The '07 has been touch and go, or at least the cab that I am currently smoking from. -Piggy
El Presidente Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I smoke these regularly (07/08). Good solid tobacco flavours. Reminds me a little of the Bolivar Gold Medal. Yes, you can enjoy them now but they will not show anything near their best for 5 years. Very little trademark caramel in the young PLPC. Should develop with some time.
jquest63 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Yes and currently my favorite petite corona. Rich tobacco, with underlying sweet notes, well balanced, smooth and satisfying 45 minute smoke.
patman24 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Just straight tobacco, no caramel yet. I am quite impatient and disappointed as well. I hope that they turn around.
