Kangaroo495 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Friends! I need to make use of my new cocktail making set and copious amounts of alcohol! WHAT COCKTAIL DO YOU DRINK WITH A CIGAR???? So far, I've made -Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri (too cold in the mouth, numbs the tastebuds) -Mojito - the one with crushed ice, not classic Cuban style (too sour) Normally I drink a scotch and coke. Want to try something new In terms of alcohol, I pretty much have everything you can think of, so throw me your ideas!! Will review each of the suggestions. PS: And don't just tell me "oh, it's all subjective, all depends on your taste". Gimme something concrete - don't be afraid! Cheers!
Colt45 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Rum and cola. I like Gosling's (black seal) rum. I also squeeze up to half a lime, depending on the size glass I use.

jfury76 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Classic mojito, bourbon and coke, dark and stormy (Goslings and Barritt's Ginger Beer) are good bets with a cigar.
Kangaroo495 Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Classic mojito, bourbon and coke, dark and stormy (Goslings and Barritt's Ginger Beer) are good bets with a cigar. Aha! Rum and ginger beer! I'm gonna try it asap and let you know how it was. Would it be possible to exchange Dry Ginger Ale for Ginger Beer (no Ginger Beer in Russia). Also, is there a suitable alternative to Goslings? (Also not able to buy that here.) I know I said I have "every kind of alcohol you can imagine", but I meant that in more basic terms... Thanks furious!
perfectform Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 A nice refereshing gin & tonic contrasts a bold cigar nicely...I like Tangueray Rangpur...
JMH Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Would it be possible to exchange Dry Ginger Ale for Ginger Beer (no Ginger Beer in Russia). I know a number of people who love jamesons irish whiskey & dry ginger ale.
bolivr Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I reckon you were on the right track at the start kanga. A little more sugar in the mojito and pair it with something from the PL range.
bunburyist Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 A nice refereshing gin & tonic contrasts a bold cigar nicely...I like Tangueray Rangpur... Tanqueray, especially No. 10 is excellent gin, good choice. If you can find it, Martin Miller's gin is also a favourite. Smooth enough to drink neat. As far as the ginger beer goes, try this. Pour the ginger beer into a tall glass with a little ice, then pour very carefully dark rum on top, so the rum sits on top. Used to be known as a 'dark n stormy' back home. Doesn't exactly qualify as a cocktail but fun in the summer anyhow.
gsmoke Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Two of my favorite cigar cocktails are the Sazerac and the Manhattan -- both with rye if you have it. Something about the combination of rye/bourbon and bitters for me make them the holy grails of cocktails. I would be happy if either one was all I could drink.
Buch0 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Bombay/Gordons Gin with tonic and a lime would be hard to beat.. Refreshing drink with or without a cigar!
Wil Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Any good dark rum on the rocks (only need two or three ice cubes)...
Kangaroo495 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Well guys, since my first post, I've built up a decent collection of alcohols and got a cocktail making set, as well as a crap load of ice. I've discovered the following: Mojito is the best cocktail for having a cigar with. I make it European style (not classic). But with milder cigars, it can be a problem, as the tangyness of the lime and the coldness of the cocktail in general can wipe out the flavour of the cigar. Whisky. Can't drink my spirits straight unfortunately. So I have it with cola. This combo is too overpowering for a cigar. Ginger ale - can't find it anywhere. Gin - Will be investing in some soon Daiquiri - I make a strawberry frozen daiquiri. It's quite good with the cigar, but a lottle on the cold side, which numbs the tastebuds Bitters - Managed to find some on holiday in Spain recently. Living the Lemon Lime and Bitters at the moment, but not a great pair with a cigar. The most reliable pairing I've found, is not alcohol, but ESPRESSO and PLAIN WATER. Always get great enjoyment from the cigar when I pair it with these drinks. Only problem is - THEY'RE NO FUN!
thechenman Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 kanga...like you said. Water goes with everything, but of course is boring. I have to say, I do like espresso with my cigars though. I am also one of those people who enjoy a good cab of zin with my cigars. On the liquor front, I pretty much always drink my scotch, bourbon, rum, etc. either neat, or on the rocks if its hot out. Coca Cola has always worked for me as well, but on its own, not as a mixer. The only mixed drinks I have had with my cigars is rum and coke which was fine and margaritas (not the frozen kind), and I like them both as well. RYJsmoker Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 For myself, it's typically a glass (or two) of a fine cognac or a real good merlot. Jeff L.
dicko Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 rum and tonic! a few pinches of vanilla sugar, big squeeze of lime. a dash of bitters also if suits. all on ice. great drink when the sun is out
Ellery Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Usually I drink beer, red wine, soda, coffee, or rum. I use to drink whisky, but now that I am noticing the more subtle flavors in cigars, Ive realized that whisky is too overpowering for the cigars.
Loki Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Bourbon Bourbon Bourbon with a bit of ice. Dry Bombay saffire martini with a small piece of roasted red pepper.
FlyFishingDude Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Apple Martoooni's. 2 shots of vodka, 2 shot apple schnapps, splash a sweet and sour mix. Shaken not stirred.......Cohiba chaser....
