MIKA27 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I prefer to hold my stogie in my hand. I have tried the Arnie thing where you hold the stogie in your mouth but the smoke tends to burn my eyes. Besides, holding it in your hand allows you to enjoy not just the flavour but I get to admire the construction, burn etc of the stogie.
thechenman Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I would say 95% of the time in my hand...particularly my right hand. I guess that is not strange since I am right handed. Maybe 1% of the time in my mouth. The tough guy look is cool, but like many members here, the smoke burns my eyes. 2% of the time in an ashtray if I am on my porch or patio and have to step indoors for a bit. The remaining 2% of the time my cigar sits in my Cigar Golf "T" which I purchased from Czar. I highly recommend this item. It has been indispensible to me on the back 9 as I can't hold a cigar in my hand, or mouth while concentrating on my golf swing.
Loki Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hey Wilkey, Good question. I keep my cigar in my hand, well except when pouring a drink. I roll the cigar from finger to finger sometimes like a poker player fondles his chips.
Matthew Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 As much as I love the taste of a fine Havana, holding it in my hands, admiring the construction and feel, watching the burn, greatly adds to the enjoyment. I'm not a fan of keeping it in my mouth as the smoke tends to burn my eyes and I find a wet cigar end rather disgusting (personal observation there, to each his own).Ken Exactly my sentiments.
PigFish Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 This actually brings up an ancillary point for me. I can't taste a cigar while it is in my mouth! I can only actually taste the cigar once it has been removed, the smoke is emulsified with saliva and made into a solution. I do sometimes perch my stogie in my gob... but it makes me want to spit constantly. I salivate a lot while smoking. I have to agree that the sense of touch greatly enhances smoking for me. I almost always roll the cigar around in my fingers. I am a hands on individual and if I am not petting my dog, tugging at my beard or caressing my cranium I have likely died in the leather chair! -Piggy
gostgost Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 In my hand so none of me boys can walk by an pick it up.
BigRay023 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I'm all over the place. I do a lot of smoking at work on my crane. So while operating its in my mouth and in hand while on stand by. At home its mostly in hand but does get a lil bit of tray and mouth time while On the computer or the xbox360. Overall I prefer my hand though.
riderpride Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Always in the stirrup of my Stinky ashtray.
ChanceSchmerr Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Hand for sure. Probably because I have yet to find a fancy ashtray that I like. The Smoke bothers my eyes as well - so no long-term chomping for me!
Alberto_Magnus Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Mainly in my hands/between my fingers, I like to see it burn and I admire the smoke...
reigndrop Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I don't know how people grip the cigar in between their teeth. The smoke always either comes sailing at my face, or I inadvertently inhale it, somehow.
lancashirescott Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 In my hand most of the time, but I do like to chew not literally in the sense but I often seem to bite and taste whilst smoking, if that makes sense lol
frenchkiwi Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Hand guy here as well... but I wish I could get it to stay in my mouth for while I am doing yard work or playing the banjo.Thinking about getting one of those harmonica holders that guitar players use, that would keep it dry as well between puffs. i like that idea - you could get a few different cigars going at the same time to compare and "play a tune" wish i could hold them in my mouth but the old smoke in the eyes and accidentally choking on it is too hard. my dad can play golf shots cigare en bouche but when i do i choke and miss-hit. but then again as an irregular player i'd probably mis-hit it anyway

Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I am another stickler for having the habanos in my hands during the duration of the smoke. To be honest I only sit down for a cigar when I have allocated the necessary time needed to complete the cigar and have the desired atmostphere at hand. Rarely, if not ever do I smoke while doing anything other than enjoying the moment.. It might sound ridiculous but half the experience for me is "becoming one" with the cigar to identify the evolution of it and to pick up any prevailing tastes. Having the cigar anywhere else but my hand prevents me from such a cause.
dicko Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Mostly hand. However, f I find myself puffing too quickly Ill let use the ashtray more. tends to slow down my smoking. The ash always falls at an inopportune time either way! (into my ugg boot tonight as I picked up from the ashtray!)
pmw Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 usually in my hand. tried holding cigars with my teeth but i smoke a lot of short cigars and too much smoke gets into my nose/eyes.
