GoSteelers Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 That is an Offensive Lineman's hand! Pretty damn Gaudy!
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 That is an Offensive Lineman's hand!Pretty damn Gaudy! Horrible, just shows that there is no correlation between (new) wealth and taste, but maybe that's just me, on the other hand i have never understand the big jewelry/diamonds/rings on a man. Weeding band and a nice watch, no diamonds or anything else that just make it taste-less, no skeleton, only if its a tour-bilion and then its should only revile the tour-bilion ( my favorit watch http://www.blancpain.com/e/collections/le_...4289q_3442a_55b ) or the Oris Artelier Small Second, Pointer Day, http://www.friendsoforis.com/store/product...=252&page=4 which is a really nice watch. For diamond rings I am no fan and I cant understand people how where them... except women... just my two-cents ( and yes, i dont like SUV:s, Cadillac, Mustang (sorry they are not a sport car, going fast down a straight count), Hummer or trucks, and yes I have lived in the us, several times, still can understand why people who are not plummers drive around in trucks..) cheers

Hopefully other countries won't become like the U.S, and the U.S. will never become like other countries (though we appear headed in that direction). How boring a world if we were all the same. As for the rings, they may be large, but I look at them as individual trophies, representative of a unique accomplishment. If they want to wear them, they've earned it.
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 You don't like Mustangs? Well, First i think its up to each person to define beauty. Personal I am not that much for Cohiba, which other adore. I am quite into cars, I love old and new sports car and have the fortune to own a couple. For me a good sports car has to look good but also be a performer, I want to be able to take it to a race course and it shall be able to take corners. Drag racing is nothing for me, nor nascar. Remember that the first Ford GT was build by a team of Aston Martin mechanics... so I will let you decide, here is a small collection of european and american cars A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE.... and a 250 GTO Aston Martin DB5 or why not the new DB9 1964 Jaguare E-type Porsche 550 spyder... koenigsegg CCX ok, last European cars is not really a performer, but its one one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, The Alfa Romeo 8C Now, American cars: ... cheers

First, difference is good, I like difference. I love going to the US being pissed at all slow SUVs, and love going for breakfast in the morning and get pancakes, but that is something complete difference, there is a difference of being difference and something that has become a trend that everyone has to follow. I read some stories of people who could never drive anything else then a SUV, not because they needed it but what would the neighbor think... sad. Well, it might be a trophies, but why? Why do they need a ring as a trohpie to show of? A nobel price winner gets a medal, which he cant really wear other then at the nobel dinner, and the honor.... And I think here lies the difference, some people has to show there accomplishment, either in gold/diamond Rolex watches or something else, others dont. or i just might be completely wrong cheers

It's not really about tasteful jewelry, it's about a celebration of winning the highest competition in the sport. For people who love football, to see a guy with one of these Super Bowl rings on is amazing, especially if you're a fan of the team. Think of it as more like a boxing title belt than jewelry. Imagine seeing a boxing title belt and saying, "Oh dear me, I just can't imagine what sort of ensemble he could wear that with". You're just missing the point.
Shelby07 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 No doubt about it... you've posted some beautiful cars there. They are also about 10X more expensive and are extremely impractical for every day use. A word about the Mustang mindset... There's no doubt that the Mustang is pretty much a pig out of the dealer, but the beauty of the car is that you can do so much with them. Enthusiasts rarely buy a Mustang and leave it alone. Suspension upgrades, body stiffening, wheel and tire selection, etc. make these cars handle extraordinarily well. A good tune, undersized pulleys, better breathing (exhaust and under the hood) all add to the fun of owning one and their ability to perform. I've outrun many a foreign beauty through the Rockies, not because my car was better than theirs, but usually because they were driven by people who just went down to the local dealer and plunked down a bunch of money for a car they didn't know how to drive. Most of these folks are not enthusiasts, they just have money. They rarely want to, or know how to, improve their "trophy cars" or take them to the edge of their capabilities. Most of them drive like old ladies! In that sense, they kind of remind me of the folks who like gaudy "trophy" jewelry. I've been driving American muscle cars since I was 17 (1967.) You think they're bad now, try cutting your teeth on some of the lead sleds that were offered back then. I'll never forget the first time I hit the brakes on a '69 Dodge Charger at 130 mph and found that you only have brakes below 90. Afterthought: The first car you posted, the Shelby GT500KR, is basically the car I started with - bears no resemblance to what I have now. It is a tribute to a car made way back in 1967. The second car you posted, the Ford GT, is a tribute to the original GT40 Mk II which took a clean sweep at the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans. It was powered by a 427 Ford engine. Ken Miles and Danny Hulme drove their GT 40 to 2nd place overall. Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon won the race. Ronnie Bucknam and **** Hutcherson took 3rd. Guess what they beat.
Guest RobertU Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 These latest rings are just hideous, sorry. I know they're supposed to be a trophy, are traditionally gaudy, and are not really something to be worn like a watch, but still...this is a new level of bling blech. Not that I care all that much - it's still my team, and they are still the champs, and, yes, the greatest American football franchise in history! Sandholm, I think you and I would get along great. Love those European cars! And I totally agree on the "monkey-see, monkey-do" aspect of cultural trends.

Yes, but a Cohiba is x10 expensive then a Guantanmera, and you can compare any modern (non racing version) Ferrari/Aston/Porche with the every day use as any muscle cars, exept that they might use less fule. I dont want to critisise muscle cars in any way, the whole idea with them is a cheap car with a huge engine I am talking about how good the car look. I've outrun many a foreign beauty through the Rockies, not because my car was better than theirs, but usually because they were driven by people who just went down to the local dealer and plunked down a bunch of money for a car they didn't know how to drive. Of-course there are morons who buy everything and that is what i wanted to point out in my first post. Horrible, just shows that there is no correlation between (new) wealth and taste, If you are in Europe don't forget go to the Nürburgring, rent a sports car (with insurance) and let it rip. I love that circus cheers

When i did my high school in York, PA i followed the stealers, and the Orioles when it came to Baseball... I am sure we would have a great time over a cigar, and there is one person who have taken "bling" (good i hate that term) a bit to far...
Colt45 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 so I will let you decide, here is a small collection of european and american cars Nothing from Sweden?
Shelby07 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I dont want to critisise muscle cars in any way, the whole idea with them is a cheap car with a huge engine I am talking about how good the car look. Point well taken. I quite agree that it's all about preference. I'm an old guy. My taste in cars was forged by my experiences in my own glory days. There's no arguing taste and/or preference. I respect your opinion. Oh yeah - and not that I want to seem politically incorrect, but I didn't buy the car for gas mileage.
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Nothing from Sweden? look again, one is Swedish...
Shelby07 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Nothing from Sweden? My other car is a Volvo. No kidding!
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 My other car is a Volvo. No kidding! and they can do really betifull cars, look at this, yes its a volvo.. and then something went wrong... and then order restored cheers
Colt45 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 look again, one is Swedish... Ooops, sorry - missed the egg - kind of a generic look these days. Didn't they used to use dragster (Ford) motors? My other car is a Volvo. No kidding! We all have our crosses to bear.....
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 My other car is a Volvo. No kidding! remembered on thing... The Koenigsegg CC is attributed with being awarded the fastest ever speeding ticket, 242mph in Texas, USA, during the Gumball 3000 rally race of 2003. The driver even talks his way out of a ticket! It could just be the movie magic since getting a 242 mph ticket is not something that Koenigsegg advertises on its website, but if you and I believe it then that's all that matters. http://www.theworldsgreatestguy.com/conten...et-ever-242-mph
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Ooops, sorry - missed the egg - kind of a generic look these days. Didn't they used to use dragster (Ford) motors? Yes, they used a Ford engine in the first car, but the took the whole engine apart and rebuild it. The new cars (since the first one) they build there engines inhouse the same with breaks and other mechnical parts. I have been fortune to drive a CXX and I can only say one thing, forget the Bugatti. If i had the cash I would no double spend it on the CXX, the problem is that the Bugatti you can drive as a "normal" car, forget that when it comes to the CXX, one misstake and it will kill you... cheers

A little off topic, have you seen the rendering of the upcoming Enzo? I think I like it - though that means little
Shelby07 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 We all have our crosses to bear..... Actually, I love it. It's probably one of the best grocery-getters I've ever owned. 268 HP turbo, 32 mpg highway, 25 city, every luxury option you can think of and one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven. On a long trip, 700-750 miles on a tank of gas is common. I have a habit of going through cars every 2-3 years. I bought this one back in Sept of 2001 (S80 T6) and will literally drive it into the ground. It takes the mountains like they aren't even there and I've never had one problem with it. It even has the original brakes and battery (However, I have replaced several sets of tires, as is my habit.) I've loaned it to several house guests to get around Colorado and they all want to buy it from me. A couple have even gone out and purchased one.
maalouly Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 A little off topic, have you seen the rendering of the upcoming Enzo? I think I like it - though that means little Are we talking about Rings or Cars? I am confused. I do like the upcoming Enzo as well, have you seen the new Porsche Panamera, I might finaly be able to convince the Mrs to let me buy one ... after all it is a 4 door 4 seater car.
b0rderman Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think Maserati still has a lock on the 4 doors, at least for now... I like how Ferrari is sticking with the F1 inspiration on the new Enzo...it looks a bit pinched in the back, just before the rear fenders...bit will be interesting to see what hits the showrooms...that artist tossed in a pretty sizable spoiler back there too
sandholm Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Are we talking about Rings or Cars? I am confused. I do like the upcoming Enzo as well, have you seen the new Porsche Panamera, I might finaly be able to convince the Mrs to let me buy one ... after all it is a 4 door 4 seater car. Well, This is not an upcoming ferrari enzo The Enzo where a special edition to celebrate Enzo Ferrari and they also did an Enzo FX, pure racer. That image where produced by left lane news. Personal i think they made a poor job, the front looks like a flatten enzo, the middle like an Audio R8 and the proportions is way off.. Ferrari would never ever design that. For the Porsche Panamera i am not a fan, we can leave it to that, nor am I a fan of the Cayanne. When it comes to 4 seaters i can only agree, Maserati which is my absolute favorite brand, the Maserati GranTurismo or the Maserati Quattroporte S, so beautiful and actually practical. Now there are some really ugly european cars, and i no one has pointed them out yet so i thought i do it..... To start of, all Lamboghini, except the Espada, its cool when you can get a whole family, dog and week grocery shopping in a supersport car. Then... Germans.. Gumpert Apollo, fast yes, but can only be driven in the dark and then we have the italiens, they do some really beautiful cars (with help from Germans engineering now), but sometimes they go mad... Pagani Zonda F cheers
