bolivr Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Seeing the pictures of the old Volvo P1800 reminded me of the new concept car, a tribute to the original. This is one car that gets the overall proportions right and also has the details right. I'll have one of these if I can't have the Alfa 8C
GoSteelers Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Funny this post turned into such a big deal. I just thought it was pretty neat to compare the rings through the years it really has turned from a token of being world champions to something akin to a WWE title belt. As for the cars nothing sharper than that Dodge Challenger!! A USA BEAUTY! A lot like The Steelers Muscle, Flash & a punch in the mouth!
Ken Gargett Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Hopefully other countries won't become like the U.S, and the U.S. will never become like other countries (though we appear headed in that direction). How boring a world if we were all the same. As for the rings, they may be large, but I look at them as individual trophies, representative of a unique accomplishment. If they want to wear them, they've earned it. have to say i agree with that last sentiment. winning a superbowl is a pretty special thing so good luck to them. that said, i have not the slightest interest personally in donning any form of jewellry - smithy, no offence but keep your nipple rings to yourself. and colt, what other countries do you feel the states is heading towards? i think most people outsie the states feel that american culture is very much insinuating itself into other countries - that comment is not intended as a value judgement in any way, except to the extent that i think in most cases, the loss of aspects of any nation's culture for whatever reason is sad.
Colt45 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 and colt, what other countries do you feel the states is heading towards? i think most people outsie the states feel that american culture is very much insinuating itself into other countries - that comment is not intended as a value judgement in any way, except to the extent that i think in most cases, the loss of aspects of any nation's culture for whatever reason is sad. KG, I just think that the free world as a whole is becoming more homogenized. Within the U.S, there is often talk of multiculturalism versus the melting pot. Financial institutions and manufacturing businesses have been nationalized. The government, intentionally or not, promotes reliance on it, instead of self reliance, which I view as a form of government control. To be quite honest, when I allow myself to dwell on all this, I'm sickened. So, I can't give any one country as an example, but personally feel a slow homogenization taking place. As for the U.S. insinuating itself in other countries, I can again only speak for myself. I'd certainly never want or expect other countries to become like the U.S. at the expense of their own identities. And I think (but obviously don't know) that many people are mistaken in thinking that Americans do expect others to be the same. If I travel, I want to experience what the country I'm in is about. People around the world have the responsibility for keeping their way of life alive, in large part in the bringing up of their children. Some years back, I was in Jamaica. I was sitting outside having a meal at the resort I was staying in. A group next to me was complaining about the Jamaican music being played and the way the food was prepared (Jamaican style). Why were they there? For them it was just a cheap vacation, but they obviously expected to be catered to in the fashion of their own country - they were not Americans. This started with me just having a bit of fun with Anders, and I'd not intended it to end up in politics - I'd rather it didn't.

Colt45 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 have you seen the new Porsche Panamera I liked the initial concept drawings more than the final execution - strictly from an aesthetic standpoint. I'm a porsche fan, and think the cayman is a great all around sports car. Seeing the pictures of the old Volvo P1800 reminded me of the new concept car, a tribute to the original. This is one car that gets the overall proportions right and also has the details right. Really like this one as well. Funny this post turned into such a big deal. Just the ebb and flow of conversation here at FOH
