billfish Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Hey fellas.......my travels will be taking me through Montreal briefly. I'll be downtown near Mc Gill University. Anybody here have any suggestions/recommendations of a shop I should try? From what I've read smoking is banned throughout the city!? On occassion I enjoy a cigarette too so I guess I'm out of luck there as well....except my hotel room? Cohiba makes a really fine cigarette as well as a great cigar. Can't wait to smoke them again.......if I can. Anyways......if any of you can offer up some guidance I would be most appreciative. I was in Toronto several years ago and loved the city. Never been to Montreal so any insight is appreciated. Thanks/Fish

Being from Vancouver myself - all I can say is...... yup. Loved all the cities you mentioned but Montreal. Montreal is already a muddy sink pit that doesn't need to sink any further into the mud. Just my two cents......
gerem Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Thx guys for the comments on MTL... Fish, if you look for a place to buy or smoke cigars, you can go to : - La casa del Habano on Sherbrooke (1434 Sherbrooke West) - Stogies on Crescent corner De Maisonneuve (2015 Crescent) Except the bad hospital/doc etc... What's the reason you don't like Montreal???? I've been in Africa and Europe, now I live in Montreal (since 1999) and I don't think it's that bad.

The La casa del Habano is just down the street ~ 3-4 blocks from the hotel so that looks like a best bet. Not sure what to think about the other? I'm only there for a couple of days so hopefully I'll steer clear of the mud. I like travelling but hate the travel if you know what I mean. Maybe YUL won't be too much of a headache. Thanks again.
thechenman Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I actually concur with you. While I can't speak for the healthcare system in Montreal, or Canada for that matter, I can say that I have had many a good time in Montreal. The area around McGill is great...vibrant nightlife with all the students. Some nice archetectural gems, the availability of cuban cigars is a huge plus, at least for me as i live in NY. Also, I've attended several great bachelor parties in that city...some of the memories are blurry though...It hink you'll really enjoy it...I guess you should just avoid getting hurt.
stargazer14 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I've been to Montreal for the Grand Prix many times and always had a fantastic time. Nice restaurants, fun bars, crazy street parties, and a decent 'Gentlemans Club' or two. I dont know what there is to not like.
ndtoronto Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Hit up the LCDH and Stogies Stogies is a Cigar/Scotch Bar with no clipping fees. It is right downtown and you can sit on the Balcony and overlook Montreal at night. Scotch ranges from $10 to $100 a shot

For anyone else heading that way........ For the record from this persons view:...not that it counts to anyone but.........: LCDH: Excellent. Not only were the cigar choices good BUT the assistants that will accompany you are HOT! It was hard to focus but I did. A very nice place to enjoy. Those ladies are well versed. They were a few bucks higher but I would have spent more going to a club to see something that nice. ;-)No, they didn't slide down a esplendido but it made the experience nice. First class. It was too close to my hotel. I'm broke. Stogies: Interesting and the beverage choice was outstanding. Timing is everything there for people like me who enjoy a quiet smoke and dram. Fun place. Vasco: Nice shop and the choices were good. Very friendly shop. No pretense and the person that helped me was indeed helpful. I'm still broke. All in all some decent choices for picking up some decent smokes. Not a cohiba cigarette to be found. Has something to do with the health warning label for Canada. Like anybody reads that. If you can get over the tax shock there are some good smokes in Montreal. I've got to have more of those Siglos VI. Damn. Thanks GeRem and others. Fish
gerem Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks GeRem and others.Fish You're welcome Fish. How did you like Montreal???
billfish Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 You're welcome Fish. How did you like Montreal??? I enjoyed my short time there. It's pretty much a city what you make of it......if that makes sense. If you want trash.....it's there. If you want first class....it's there. Typical international city to me. Most of all of the people I encountered were friendly. Excellent food choices if you know where to look. Overall, it was fine. The airport was very efficient on the days I was in and out. Toronto is a bit cleaner but that didn't really distract. If I were say 15-20 years younger......I could have gotten in trouble easily in Montreal! There were some nice views and the area just near The Sofitel where I stayed looked like fun in the late evening. All in all......it was fine. Grab a cigar....Go by Anton and James.....(good coffee and the views behind the counter was very nice).....find a place to sit and enjoy. Wash rinse repeat. ;-)
