Yankee Stadium Project

At the request of a few people I know on the forums, I decided to post pictures of a project I started last winter in my basement (no help from "the gimp"). Yes, I have way too much time on my hands! I attribute it to working in finance and craving an outlet to be creative when I'm not in the office. This is a scale reproduction of Yankee Stadium which is currently being demolished as the Yankees have moved across the street to their new digs.

I hand fabricated each piece of the model, which sits on a 4x4ft piece of plywood, by hand. There is still a lot of work to be done but I thought that it would be of interest to some of my friends here at FOH. I have currently lost inspiration as fishing season has begun once again and the weather is too nice to lock myself up down there... I'd rather tie up some new flies in the garage with a CoRo than work on it to be honest. Having said that, I'm hoping for some inspiration so I can finish it up and get it out of my house and on display lol.

About the model:

Pictures shown are from its humble beginnings until current... I had probably 200 pictures which I could share on snapfish.com if provided with an email address.

Made completely of basswood and balsa, some plastic used for the facade

Scale is 1" = 20ft

Advertisements were created online and printed to photo quality paper, then mounted on basswood

Grass is premade turf used in model railroading, however I had to paint in the lines as if mowed.

I will hopefully add lights if Mike (mbrody) will help me... please, pretty please?? with sir winnies on top???

Still have to finish the exterior, add subway tracks, more advertisements, etc.

I welcome any ideas and or criticism.

Really cool. As an architect who had to build a ton of models in school, I can appreciate all the work that this must have been.

Since you asked for criticism, the bases and rubber appear to be a little out of scale

Seriously though, nice work. Make sure you post the pics upon (eventual) completion. Got a glass case for it yet?

That 4th picture down from the top gave me chills!....That IS Yankee Stadium!!!.....you even got the "Black Seats" down perfect! How did you re-create the stripes in the grass? That is so cool. How long have you been working on this project?

PS: Man, you Red Sox fans...you're all like a pack of male dogs. You have to go around and pee on every tree in the Yankees Universe! Go follow the Blue Jays fans around and pee on their trees for a while

That's great work, quite a talent. On that thought I'd like to post a few pics of a hobby that alot of us played as kids, and some us still play: miniature or electric football. Yeah, the vibrating field where the guys went every direction. Today the game is very refined, way different than when I was young. Below you'll see some pics of Jaguars home field built by one of the innovators in this hobby. Very similar to the Yankees stadium. Hopefully the pictures attach.
