almost unknown history, Cohiba

With the last Festival del Habano and the launching of the Cohiba Gran Reserva, we have seen the

important role played by Cohiba in the Marketing Strategy of HSA.

It would be sometimes good to go back in History to better appreciate the present.

Not many persons know that before being launched into the International market, Cohiba

had to prove itself worthy of such an honor.

In 1969, the first Cohibas were , in it's first packaging design , only sold in Diplomatic stores and on

some flights on Cubana Aviacion.

In 1975, Cohiba was seen at the 6th Convention of non-aligned states in Havana where it was sold

in the Convention Palace Building.

Finally in 1981, Cohiba received its first quality award. this was the first time ever that a cigar

brand received such an award for excellence.

What is also interesting to know is that, at the time, this award was given by the state Normalization

committee who at the time was headed by a certain Mr. Felix Enrique Mons, who today is the

most knowledgeable expert on Habanos and a master blender. also the manager of the LCDH store

at Club Habana in Havana where the Gran Reserva and the Maduro 5 were each launched.
