jeromeroselli Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 As I type this I just finished an italian meal that myself and my Irish and Native American wife prepared on st. patty's day. Tradition was never my forte'. Grilling some chicken on the outdoor grill enjoying some of the beautiful weather, I decided to spend that 20 minutes smoking a Punch Petit Punch. And yeah fellas, the only thing burning was the stogie. There's something really special about these cigars. They're pretty little things, albeit tiny, with oily wrappers in a dark tan shade with that punch band. Just a nice combination of colors for the senses. I like to take a moment to really check the cigar out before I sacrifice it to the wind, and one thing I notice about these cigars is that they're construction is perfect. Not too tight, not too loose, just right. Pre light draw was just what I expected, and it tasted of sweet cuban tobacco, and just a hint of grilled chicken. (Maybe because I dropped it on the grill). After lighting up, and singing off my eyebrows, I got a nice burst of delicious earthy notes. These little cigars pack a punch! At this point I decided to have a seat and relax for a moment, and take the cigar in as it was the last in my humidor. Mind you, I've only had them around for two + weeks. Delicate earthy notes develop into powerful earth flavors. I can describe them as wet forest, delicious cuban tobacco, and just a tiny tiny hint of espresso and cream. These hints of espresso eventually give way to less earthy notes and more of that great italian roastes espresso coffee flavor. Perfect for a st. patty's day italian feast. After bringing in the chicken, i went back out to finish my shorty. It's amazing to me that such a tiny cigar can deliver such a fantastic range of flavors that are so enjoyable. A few more puffs. Espresso. Earth. And.... Ammonia? It was at this point that I realized that I've smoked all of my Petit Punch's before the rule of thumb 30 day resting period, so I probably deserved this slap in the face. I ashed it out and decided to order some more, vowing to let them settle down for awhile before dipping into the stash the next time. They're just too good to waste. After a tour of Italy and Cuba, it was time for one more flavor. Killians Irish Red. There's my irish fix for the day. Then again, the night's not over! Happy St. Patricks day to you all, and to all a good night. Punch Petit Punch summary- Goes great with fettucini alfredo on St. Patricks day. Earthy notes, delicious assorted coffee flavors. Short, strong, wonderful. I give this cigar a 90/100 (forgetting the ammonia flavor) -jeremy
El Presidente Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I felt I was there Fantastic review of perhaps my current favourite half corona. Delivers so much flavour so consistently!
jeromeroselli Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 I think that this cigar is at the top of the threshold for me. Can you smoke better cigars? Sure.. Enjoyment is subjective of course, but preference is as well! Glad you enjoyed it! PS, can anyone recommend to me another vitola within the punch marquee that can exceed my feelings for this little guy?
mkz Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 PS, can anyone recommend to me another vitola within the punch marquee that can exceed my feelings for this little guy? IMHO: Punch Petit Corona Great review by the way!
stargazer14 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I smoked one last nite myself on St. Pattys Day - I went thru my first box this month, just love the little guys. After the box arrived I had one right away and it was still very good! need to order a few more boxes before production stops.... nice review btw !
jeromeroselli Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Agreed Stargazer.. ROTT they are just fine. A week later, still fine. After that, better wait 3 weeks for them to relax a little. Prez, when do you think stock on these will be down to zero?
Smooth Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Great review, many thanks... I smoked a Punch petit with my brother a couple of years ago. He hated me smoking cigars but over that 25 minutes we had one of the best conversations we have ever shared. Outstanding and often overlooked cigar.
laficion Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Jeremy, Great title . Great story. Not even the Images were missing, It was as if we could see the whole thing live. PLUS, your right, that's one great small cigar. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
mbrody Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 J, Thanks for the review. It sparked my interest and I am half way through my first Petit. So far, a blast! Very fulfilling smoke indeed. It will be a shame to see these disappear. Stock up while you can!
jeromeroselli Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Recently bought a 25'er myself.. I figure, stick them away for rainy (or cold) days. They're so worth it. What a great cigar.... Cheers
