I have been wanting to write a review about this beautiful cigar for a while now. Saturday afternoon seemed to be the perfect opportunity the sun was out and I had just bought a bottle of Cachaca to make some caipirinha.

Picked one of my Bolivar Double Coronas Edition Regional. As you can see from the photo attached it’s a elegant looking cigar.

Pre-light aroma was strong coffee and leather.

I grabbed a Cedar stick and started lighting the cigar … 60 second later it’s ready to be clipped and smoked .. very nice first puff very mild very gentle.

First 3rd:

First few puffs, the cigar is still cold but it’s showing some amazing potential of a great smoke to come! First few ones revealed some Mild burnt taste and citrus put once the cigar was warm that quickly changed to Dark chocolate … very nice smooth dark chocolate.

post-5143-1235867362.jpg

I am half way into my first 3rd and now I am getting some nice burnt caramel almost like Toffee with a finish of nice Coffee burnt … I would say Espresso, yes definitely espresso.

post-5143-1235867405.jpg

My first 3rd is finished.

post-5143-1235867450.jpg

Second 3rd:

I am getting some harsh tobacco and lots of peper in my nose, let the cigar rest for 60 seconds than puffed again, ok we’re back in action now, the cigar turned from burnt flavours to sweeter tones now.

post-5143-1235867496.jpg

First few puffs revealed creaminess something that is very creamy, I can’t put my finger on it as yet. Few puffs later I am getting Late flavours with a nutty end to it lots’ of sweety milky coffee and nuts very nice.

End of my second 3rd I am now getting lots of sweet tobacco/wood and liquorish.

Last 3rd:

Flavours are getting too intense now, the sweetness is turning to sour again, burnt coffee with a bit of grass and leather. Ok now the cigar is getting really strong and getting confused with the flavours it was to provide I will end my journey here.

Overall, I think this cigar is great, you will need at least 2 to 2 and half hours to finish it. It will require your full attention as it has so many different flavours that keep coming at you constantly. I would give it high 80’s as I believe it is not fully ready as yet. In 12 to 24 months time I think the last 3rd will be perfect and this cigar will score low nineties.

I hope you have enjoyed this review as much as I enjoyed smoking it.

Thanks for a great review! I have a box of these sitting deep in the recesses of my humidor, biding their time.

I can't help but comment on those moments when you found the cigar to be sour or muddled and over-strong. When a cigar gets like that, usually in the second half, it's most likely due to the buildup of tars and gases within the cigar. That's the time to "purge" it. You do that by gently blowing air outward through the cigar for 10 to 15 seconds. While it's utterly unnecessary to do so, if you put a torch to the foot of the cigar while (whilst to you lot) doing so you will ignite the escaping gases and enjoy a nice blue flame until the gases have been fully purged.

Thank you Van, I will purge it next time I face similar issue. I usually let the cigar rest for a bit than re-smoke it, but purging seems to be a good idea too I just fear it might affect the tatste of the cigar in general.

Mate, thanks for the review. As a Bolivar fan, this is one of the few REs that I've had much interest in hearing about.

But to be honest, I just wouldn't chase it down.

Nice review. Great looking smoke. The Bolivar Belicosos Fino is a go to smoke for me. I have not tried the double corona yet, but reading this temps me.

Good review mate.

I had the opportunity to get these late last year but passed because of I had other cigar commitments that I had previously signed up for. Good on you for reviewing them.

I believe this cigar has had two releases. Is that right? If so, what release did you smoke?

Hey Rob,

I have read that it had a second release but I have never seen it. My box is from an 07 production and the ox number from memory was 1120 that's if my memory serves me right, I might need to go to the garage to double chceck that :)

When we get together for a cigar night in sydney i'll bring you a stick.

Wow! Cheers mate. Sounds like you must have quite a nice collection. I'll see if I can muster up anything nice to reciprocate. :)

I had another crack at this cigar on Saturday, 6 months since I reviewed it. The flavours are alot more concentrated and the sweet honey and maple syrup flavours, it hoenstly felt as if I had dipped the cigar in them. It also had intense coffee and choclate flavours coming through out, I might add the bitterness in the last 3rd is no longer there and now i'ts more like dark choclate, lovely cigar and is nearing the 91 92 mark.

i greatly enjoy this cigar.

the change has been dramatic from last year to this year.

Then I need to smoke one. It's been at least a year & quite frankly, the couple I smoked then were disappointing. Not much flavor to them. Hopefully mine will have come around.

Hey mate,

It's a shame to hear that yours had no flavours, mine from day dot was full of flavours, but they were just not balanced. Now it is starting to come around and I am loving it.

Is yours from the first release or the 2nd one?

So do you recommend I hang on to the one you set me a year or so longer before smoking it?

Another year they will reach their maturity, but you can smoke it today.

I'm in no hurry to remove this beautiful cigar from my humidor, so... ;)

i must say that first picture provoked an involuntary increase in saliva production - i will probably never be able to get hold of this cigar but thank you for posting those pictures - that is a work of art.
